McGuire's vs. Zymol
« on: December 15, 2006, 04:41:37 pm »
According to most of the posts I have read on here, it seems the consencous is that McGuire's wash, wax, detailing products are the most popular and come with the highest recommondations....any chance anyone has used the Zymol line of product??

I used this a few years ago when a friend of mine's Ferrari was getting detailed and that shop used the Zymol product...also cause it smelled amazing!!

I'm just amazed that McGuire seems to be the only one that people like. Just curious.

Cheers,

Zymol has their budget stuff (sold in Canadian Tire) which I've tried but didn't find it very good. Zymol also sells a high end line, which is only sold in specialty shops (think $50-100 for a bottle of wax). I've never tried that stuff.

The Zymol stuff you get at Canadian Tire is useless.  I'm surprised they would even put their name on such a product.  Their higher end waxes I have used many times and they are FANTASTIC!  Pretty labour-intensive as the pre-wax cleaning requires some pretty heavy rubbing, but it leaves the paint surface squeaky clean and shiny.  The wax then goes on smooth and comes off easy without long waits for it to haze up.  I have never been less than very impressed with the results.  And while the wax is expensive, it goes a real long way - a VERY thin coat works best - you do not want to goop this stuff on.

That said, the results I get with Meguiars products are nearly as good, for a fraction of the price and with less time and effort overall. Which probably explains their popularity.  Still, I know a few owners of higher end cars that won't let anything near that doesn't have the Zymol name on it.

You said it Jaeger -Meguiars never fails to impress :)

But then again, it most cases it also comes down to preference as well.

I have an old bottle of Zymol polish (the blue stuff). Smells great what with aloe extracts and coconut milk all mixed in. Better than my very own bath gel!  :-[
