DSG Cold Running Hesitation
« on: December 08, 2006, 02:03:17 pm »
I have an 06 Jetta TDI with the 6-speed DSG with about 25K on it.  After sitting all night, it seems to almost stall after reversing out to the driveway when I put it in Drive.  The revs drop right off and then the clutches in the tranny seem to engage abruptly. >:(

Anyone had similar experiences - this was not a problem for the first year I had the car. ???

Darn that sucks...

The best bet is to book an appt with your dealer and have them check it out.

What's 'cold'?

At -20dC and colder the clutch on my TDI got a tad stiffer, but moreso the shifter was quite hard to move initially (generally only after a few hundred feet or if warmed up was back to normal).

Being an automated manual, could see the same thing happening. Do you idle your car for a bit in the morning (even 30 seconds) or just take off? If not, I would sit for at least a minute on really cold days before taking off. Victoria normally isn't very cold but I guess this year is bringing different weather so don't know what it's like over there.

By cold, I mean, the car has been sitting in the garage overnight.  The temp there probably doesn't even drop below 0.  And, I do usually let it idle for a few minutes before I set off... weirdness ???

Prail1 has the right suggestion (off to the dealer, warranty complaint).

As it didn't happen for you before + its not actually 'cold' there + you did some warmup, something changed. I don't have that problem with my DSG (turbo) and don't warm it up for any time. It could also be something like a clogged air filter reducing the engine idle, although these days maybe the computer compensates for that??

It's time to change the transmission fluid despite what VW says.

At the end of the day we can all give our suggestions as to what could be the problem.

In the end you dealt out some decent coin for the vehicle. If it is not operating in a matter you think is normal than you should book an appt with your dealer asap to have it looked over. You know how quickly they will pass the buck if your transmission fails and they try to claim it was 'abused' or whatever.

No sense in a penny saved a dollar foolish in this case. I'm sure those DSG's are not cheap to repair / replace.

Let us know what happens!

You will probably have to leave the car overnight at the dealer to replicate this problem.  If you drive to the dealer your car will be warmed up and the problem so they won't be able to see this problem.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

Good idea - I will do that when the next servicing is required.  Otherwise, I can already hear their response, "When we tried it, everything went fine..."

Try a night drop-off if possible, unless they'll give you a loaner.
