My New '86 Mazda B2000!
« on: November 19, 2006, 11:11:34 pm »
Picked this up as a temporary vehicle for getting my Seven parts (mostly the engine). $400 and runs like a champ. I'm kinda getting attached to it ...

I like the crooked plate out back.   Adds to the clunker look.

I'd be lying if I said it's a nice ride, but I'm sure it's nice for your purpose.  $400 is a great price too.

I've been driving one since 1993. Good little trucks.

Was the rust standard equipment or an added-cost extra?  ??? ;D Great price for a truck that actually works.

that's not rust... those are speed holes.. they make the truck go faster

Thanks for the explanation. I'm old, so I'm not always up on the latest speed technology.  ;)

Nice.  :)

The interior picture reminds me of my Dad's 1988 Dodge Aries.

The rust/speed holes follow Colin Chapman's philosophy of keeping weight down in the vehicle.....

Used to see SO MANY of those older B-Series trucks, and now next to none.

I like the 'battered but still on the road' look myself.

Ahh... memories of the '91 B2600 "sport truck" my dad had.  I had a lot of fun in that thing with its stick-shift and "bigger, torquier engine" and whopping 126 hp.  I believe the B2200 of the time was something like 85 hp.  In a truck!  ha ha...

$400 for a functional vehicle?  Sounds like a good bargoon to me!

Mine according the library's copy of the Chilton manual (buying a manual would be 5% of total price  :rofl2: ) has 80hp@4500rpm and 110lbs-ft@2500. Also listed was a diesel 2.2L of 58hp  :o

(you were right about the 2.2L - 85hp and 118lbs-ft)

My one and only pick-me-up truck was a 1972(?) Mazda B1800(?). In 1976 I drove that thing from Vancouver to San Francisco to Halifax and back. It was the same beast as the Ford Courier. Just thinking about it makes me want to break into song:

"Nobody knows the troubles I've seen,
Nobody knows the sorrows"

Kind of reminds me of a waste of garage space that could be better for MT beer bottles, and recycled newspapers.  ;D

A truck like that doesn't know what to do in a garage, best leave it outside, preferably with the windows open for air, and never, never, never try to wash it - it might be the dirt holding it together........... :rofl2: :rofl2: ;)

Its only in there until I get a proper plate and insurance for it as the wife deemed it too ugly to parked on the driveway (likely pees a little oil too - cardboard is down in garage). Once its plated and insured its off to the back alley!

Ok so I give the B2000 a tune up - spark plugs, rotor, cap, pcv value, oil change - came to under $50Cdn  8)

Since then (ie this weekend) I've racked up about 1500kms. No issues so far except the tailgate latch broke off.

I saw that ad, I thought, yeah, that's going to sell quick. A good deal for all concerned.
