Buying a 2007 Santa Fe
« on: November 15, 2006, 12:05:17 am »
Hi,
I've done the research and decided to buy a 2007 Santa Fe. Since this is my first new car, need some advices from you guys.  :)

1. Now the finance rate is 0% for 36 month, should I wait to Charismas for a better deal? Cash incentive, possible?

2. I got the invoice quote from the CCC, but the dealer asked for $1500 mark-up over the invoice - only $900 off the MRSP. Is this too expensive? I'm in Calgary, anyone has experience with the hyundai dealer here?

Thanks for all the advices.  :)

1)  After Xmas is typically the 'best' time to buy, as it is the slowest time of the eyar for car companies...  However, the new Snata Fe has apparently taken off a little better then even Hyundai had expected and they're not exactly sitting on the lots.  What I am getting at is that a further (post) Xmas discount is not a given, but a possibility.

2) I live in Calgary and test drove one of these units a few weeks back - Very impressed.  I did some exploratory haggling and was able to get it to $500 over invoice - So I'd say you can do better.  You have to walk away though.  If they say no, say fine and get up and leave.  Come back again a few days later if they haven't called to counter.   I personally wouldn't pay more then $600 over invoice on these, but I enjoy the game :)

Hyundai tends to always have some incentive on, but you just don't know what it will be. Waiting means taking a chance. If 0% for 36 works for you, go for it.

I also think you can do a little better in discounting off the MSRP. It's a hot product, but again, I'd try for a bit more. Can't hurt.

Hyundai typically doesn't sweeten the pot from a corporate level to much at Christmas.  Current owner loyalty rebates are about all I've seen in the past few years, outside of regular incentives.

My advice would be wait to Dec 1, as that is when the new incentive programs appear.   It shouldn't get worse, and may get better.

GLS S'Fes are in very short supply, you may get a stronger deal on a GL or GL premium.

Hi, you probably don't want to hear this, but I'll share it anyway.  I realize that the Santa Fe is redesigned this year, but you might want to check to see if they used the same transmission.  My father and my brother each bought one a few years back and they both got rid of them before the warranty was up.  Both had transmission problems.  My fathers had an additional problem where cold air would blow in onto the passenger's legs.  Hyundai couldn't fix any of the problems. Oh, also, my father's roof rack fell off too... leaving a mess on the road behind him.
That said, I really like the styling of the new ones.  Pricing is good whether you get a deal or not, considering what you get for your $.
Knowing what I know, I'd lease it so you can easily walk away at the end of the lease if you have problems with the vehicle.
Good luck.
Regards,

I test drove a 3.3 GL AWD (7pass.) this week.  Never thought I'd consider a Hyundai but was very impressed.  Considering leasing.  Funny thing though is salesguy didn't want to give me the residual value on a 4 yr lease.  Other websites (Honda, Toyota) have this info.  Said he'd only be able to give it once we settle on a price.  I'm considering calling another dealer because of this but will insist on getting it next time I visit (if I visit).

Anyone know where I can get the residual on this vehicle?  Also, what's the typical amount you can negotiate of MSRP thes days?

Thanks.  I've read this forum for the past 1.5 years and it helped with my Accord purchase.

I really hate it when salesperson does not give you all the information you need to make a correct decision
I would try another dealer or the salemanger in the same dealership if there is not another one close to you

5 seat GLS. But the salesguy told me this model is very hot, and it takes 4-6 weeks to order one. Planning to make a deal next weekend.

The residual for a GLS 5 pass is 45% for 48 months.  Hyundai enhances the value 105% (msrp x .45 x 1.05=Residual)  Add an additional $540 to the residual for a low Km lease (20k/yr)

The '07 S'Fe with the 3.3 uses a new 5 speed auto.
Invoice is around $33,600 for this model.

I'm also looking at purchasing an 07 Santa Fe.  Curious to see what you wound up paying.

Anyone else have any insight?  Looking at either the 5sp manual 2.7 or entry level 3.3.
