The Altima has got to be the oldest - or nearly so - competitor in its segment, and it's still selling well.

Agreed.  When you look at high sales numbers for vehicles like the Altima, new Jetta, new Civic, Escape, Grand Caravan, etc. - all vehicles that are either older, not top of their class for some reason or other, or both - you realize there is one common denominator.  Very, very good pricing (dare I say value?)  Just goes to show that no matter how much we on the forum want the latest and greatest, what most Canadians want is a reliable vehicle that doesn't cost very much.

Damn, we are a sensible nation!

Mississauga, ON – March 1, 2012 – Led by a trio of strong-selling vehicles, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) recorded 1,581 deliveries last month, a 1.4 per cent increase over 1,559 sales last year. It was a record February for Mitsubishi, now in its 10th year in Canada.

Mitsubishi’s newest crossover, the compact RVR, was February’s top seller at 605 deliveries. RVR features class-leading fuel economy at 6.4 L/100 km. In February, RVR sales were followed by all Lancer models at 481 deliveries and the mid-size Outlander sports utility vehicle with 438 sales.

“A common denominator among our top selling models in February is the availability of all-wheel-control – a suite of technologies offering performance, reliability and safety. Our dealers tell us all-wheel-control is a key customer preference in Mitsubishi vehicles,” said Shin Fujioka, President and CEO of MMSCAN.

“Mitsubishi has gained solid traction in the Canadian marketplace. Sales momentum in February follows record January sales – also an historic best-ever month – and we expect this trend to continue,” he added.

Twenty deliveries of the zero-tailpipe emission, all-electric 2012 Mitsubishi i-MiEV were also recorded in February. Now in its third month in the Canadian market, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV was recently named Canada’s most fuel-efficient subcompact car by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

It's interesting to note that the smart fortwo, much maligned on this forum; at #134 and 1851 units is roughly in the middle of the list, yet many will still claim that there's no market for the IQ, which in all respects, is probably twice the vehicle.

No surprise that Mazda has a winner. They moved 1,649 CX-5's in March, 50% of them in Quebec.

Interestingly, the CX-7 number doesn't look too affected either.
