On the Cdn side, BMW has been spending serious coin promoting some of their newer models coming out this month. For example, in yesterday's Globe&Mail, front section, BMW had 6 full page ads, one after the other. Quite impressive, but must cost a few bucks!! Being promoted included the X6Hybrid, the new 535GT, the slightly revised X3, and general feel good stuff. There have also been a number of full page Globe ads lately promoting the X5M and X6M. Having seen a X5M at the local shop, got to say that it's a really good looking rig and with the new 4.4L TT V8 puts out 555hp....sounds pretty good too. Perhaps the sales increase is being driven by this big promotion of the newer models. It will be interestng to see the detailed breakdown by model that SirA usually posts. Thanks for posting the Sept. breakdown SirA. Looks like BMWs sales increase last month was fairly broad based. (% increase Sept.09 vs Sept.08) 1 series, 104.3% 3 series, 32.6% 5 series, 60.8% 6 series, -61.1% 7 series, 38.0% Z4, 275.0% X3, 40.5% X5, 58.7% X6, 147.5% Here is a breakdown of how much of the 50% overall increase is attributed to each model 1 series, 15.2% 3 series, 32.8% 5 series, 7.4% 6 series, -1.4% 7 series, 2.4% Z4, 4.1% X3, 8.0% X5, 20.7% X6, 10.8% Overall, it looks like the 1 series, 3 series, X5, and X6 accounted for 80% of the sales increase last month. |

I was curious where this 68.4% (Sept.09 vs. Sept.08) monthly sales increase came from at Subaru.
(% increase Sept.09 vs Sept.08) Forester, 28.5% Impreza, 107.4% Legacy, 102.0% Tribeca, -2.3%
Here is a breakdown of how much of the 68.4% increase is attributed to each model. Forester, 16.7% Impreza, 49.2% Legacy, 34.4% Tribeca, -0.2%
Again, It looks like the Subaru sales increase last month was broad based with the Tribeca being the odd man out.

In the pointless/useless fwd flagship category the Maxima outsells the Avalon 7 to 1 and Azera 9 to 1. |

Toyota Canada leads the pack http://www.thestar.com/business/article/733296--toyota-canada-leads-the-packToyota, which started selling cars in Canada in 1965, reported its sales soared 26 per cent to a record 16,112 in November, while GM's business tumbled 29.9 per cent to 15,063. Ford Motor Co. of Canada also outsold GM for the second time this year, although its volumes dipped 1.5 per cent to 15,909. I guess most Canadians feel its people not the car cause the "sudden acceleration" issues, or "gas pedal stuck under mat |

Man, did Acura ever flog the MDX's out the door in October...I'm totally stunned by how many they sold. They sold more MDX's than CR-Vs, and basically moved as many as did the Honda stores move Accords... |

Ford, Toyota pass GM in Nov. Canada sales James B. Treece Automotive News December 9, 2009 - 12:07 pm ET
Both Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. surged past General Motors Co. in Canadian new-vehicle sales in November. But GM held on to the top-selling position among automakers in Canada for the year to date.
Canadian new-vehicle sales fell 3 percent in November from November 2008 to 102,188 units. It was the fifth straight single-digit decline, after eight straight prior months of double-digit drops.
Through the first 11 months of the year, Canadian sales fell 13 percent to 1,349,608 units.
Ford took first place among automakers in sales in November. Its sales eased 1 percent to 16,379. Ford’s car sales rose 4 percent to 3,925, but its truck sales fell 3 percent to 12,454.
Toyota ranked No. 2 as its November sales jumped 26 percent to 16,112. Toyota brand sales rose 27 percent while Lexus sales climbed 11 percent.
GM’s sales tumbled 30 percent to 14,983. Cadillac brand sales rose 24 percent to 499, but sales fell at every other GM brand.
Chrysler Group was fourth in November. Its sales slid 26 percent to 11,460. Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group was fifth as its sales rose 27 percent to 10,486.
Ford has topped GM several months this year in Canadian sales. For the year so far, though, GM still leads the pack with sales of 233,837, down 30 percent. Ford is second with sales of 212,874, up 4 percent.
Next in order for the year are Toyota, Chrysler and Hyundai-Kia. |

That has got to be a frightening statistic for Ford. Cars account for only 23% of sales? And that's after Ford decided to focus on cars sales, to move away from the dependancy on trucks and SUV's? Holy Cow. If there's another large spike in gas prices, it's going to erode truck and SUV sales even more. That would be a death knell for Ford, considering the company's debt load. |

Not a lot of good car stuff yet on Ford lots, other than the Fusion. Focus is still old tech and the Taurus is probably too big for the Canadian market (taking off big time in the US though).
Wait until the Fiesta and new Focus start arriving, never mind the Kuga et al. |

Agreed. They will be riding a wave and think will manage it well for a long time.

November '09...I don't think the new Taurus will sell in big numbers in Canada as well, but if one looks at the Nov.2008 (95 units) & Nov.2009 (225 units) , Full size cars are not big movers in Canada, example Chryslers 300 (228 units), Toyota Avalon (21 units), Hyundai Genesis (225) and Nissan Maxima (110 units) I'd say Ford Canada should be very pleased. Looking at Toyota's November numbers I notice that Toyota places the Venza in the car division. I thought it was being sold as a CrossOver vehicle. I guess Toyota classifies it as a station wagon. Not that it matters but when looking at the other auto makers so called CrossOvers, they are listed under the truck division section. |
