Moron and the pedestrian crossing

I pressed the button, the yellow lights started blinking and I indicated I plan to cross.  The trucks and cars on my left stop and the right was cleared of traffic so I proceeded to cross the 4 lane street.  I was half way across when I noticed a minivan approaching from the right.   Hmm, he seemed to be going kind of fast for a 50 zone.   Spidey senses said I'd better stop moving.   He blew through the crossing.   He looked at me as he drove by so I followed the other part of the "look and point" crossing instructions and pointed my middle finger at him.

Moron lady in a new Honda van.  Apparently dodging potholes on the new vehicle.  I don't think she realized she was swerving into other lanes.  Dumbass nearly swiped my front left fender as she was avoiding these mythical gorges.

I would like to personally thank the 19000 drivers on the 400,401,427, and QEW who would not get out of the left lane and let me pass on my way to Oakville today. This fart is for you!

Now that Fantino is heading up the OPP it's tough to get those 'Snowman Advisories' out there. The system is still being developed - maybe by the time you head home they will be out there waiting for you. ;D ;)

And good luck with the presentation too!

I avoided the left lanes last night for good measure and avoided an unfortunate accident. First incident was a Honda Civic tailgating and swerving through the lanes, I moved to the right lane from centre lane and stayed there throughout 404/DVP to Toronto, 3 minutes later spot an unfortunate accident,  Honda Civic of same color rear-ended another car in left lane and people are panic braking.

Second tool was in a black Acura Integra driving over the line in two lanes on bends (DVP). Is it too hard to drive inside the two lines when there is a slight bend on the road? I am not an expert driver, I can do it.

That's a HUGE pet peeve of mine. >:( It's more of an issue when I'm bicycling, since drivers tend to cut corners a bit on my street (one lane in each direction with bike lanes on the outside). If I just happen to be at the apex of a gentle right hand curve, more often than not I'll get buzzed by a motorist.

I had an instance (two, now that I think of it) of a truck type vehicle (not sure if it was an SUV or pickup) driving with his/her left wheels crossing the centre line. It didn't seem to matter whether the road was bending left or right, either.  :( So I had to swerve in my lane to avoid the truck, and I can bet the cars behind me were pretty pissed-off too.

I thought it was kind of odd, since most people who don't know the size of their vehicle tend to drive more towards the right (ie: to put the driver in the centre of the lane, shifting the car to the right). Maybe the person was overcompensating (in more ways than one)?  ;) ;D :rofl2:

It's a residential street with one lane on each side.  The lanes are extremely wide; people park on the side.
:)

AFAIK no passing on single lane road using the shoulder even if there's wide enough space between said vehicle and curb. If you hit the car it's your fault not the vehicle that's turning.

I was behind a Ford Taurus wagon going down an onramp which merged onto the circ. The Taurus signals its intention to merge ahead as our lane is ending. I do the same but checked the blind spot to find a Pontiac Sunfire there. I wait until the Sunfire passes. It signals it's left turn signal into the next lane, pressumably to let the Taurus merge, as he is REALLY running out of road. I turn back again to check my blind spot. No one there. I look ahead and the Taurus is COMPLTELY stopped in our lane ahead of me. Turns out that the Sunfire didn't change lanes to let the Taurus driver in and the Taurus driver had to brake hard otherwise they would've collided. He just signalled and stayed in the lane. I had to brake REALLY hard to avoid hitting the Taurus from behind, all because this Sunfire decided to deak us out making us think that we would let us in.

Why would you signal a lane change then stay in the lane. And why the hell wouldn't you move over to let two cars in when you know they are running out of road ahead?  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

You can pass on the right in the following circumstances...But you are correct that if he hits the car he is at fault.

Passing to right of vehicle

      150.  (1)  The driver of a motor vehicle may overtake and pass to the right of another vehicle only where the movement can be made in safety and,

         (a)    the vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn or its driver has signalled his or her intention to make a left turn;

         (b)    is made on a highway with unobstructed pavement of sufficient width for two or more lines of vehicles in each direction; or

         (c)    is made on a highway designated for the use of one-way traffic only.  R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 150 (1).

Driving off roadway prohibited

      (2)  No driver of a motor vehicle shall overtake and pass another vehicle by driving off the roadway.  R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 150 (2).

Non-application of subs. (2)

      (3)  Subsection (2) does not apply to the driver of,

         (a)    a motor vehicle overtaking and passing to the right of another vehicle where the shoulder to the right of the roadway is paved and the vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn or its driver has signalled his or her intention to make a left turn;

On the way to work today I saw a Camry change lanes into a lane that was still occupied by a red Tercel. The Tercel was pushed halfway off the road, thankfully there was no sidewalk in the area. I also had to give the horn to someone that was going to change lanes into my front fender. ::)

Interesting.  Thanks for letting me know.

People pass all the time, though.  When someone's making a left, they'd scoot over to the right and pass them, no problem.

I've even seen cops do that.  ???

Yes, but who's gonna ticket the cop for doing that?

Ugh, this happened to me AGAIN today.  I'm driving a long and this KID in a Grand AM decides he is going to change lanes into my DOOR!  I hammer the horn and this dude just doesn't get it, then he tries the same to get into the NEXT lane over on the right, I cruise up beside him and give him a nice long hard look, he was mouthing something.  I believe he said "I'm an idiot and can't drive"

I just got back from driving Sudbury - Ottawa - Toronto and back last weekend, jeez are there a lot of Pontiac drivers just cutting loose out there. Crazy.

Unfounded Conclusions/Generalizations:

1) Young with spiky hair
2) Quebec Licence plate
2) Pontiac (grand am, bonniville, grand prix, even an aveo)

It seemed to happen again, again and again.

= Someone to blaze trail & blow by me while I am going 130 - 140

Amazing!  I'm glad I'm not the only one to see that there are an inordinate number of Pontiac drivers out there that are ass-hats!

I recently installed an Italian air horn with dual trumpets on my Miata and I never turn down the opportunity to give my fellow motorists a scare every day. I can gaurantee that I will encounter at least 1 idiot on every commute I make to work.. and that's when they get an earfull of the airhorn.  Ahh... so satisfying.

Speaking of horns, a few years ago I was fed up with drivers cutting me off and just generally not paying attention (when I was on my bike) and my little ding-ding bell didn't cut it. So I ended up getting one of these:

The air tank fits into the water bottle holder (also comes with it's own mounting strap if you choose to use it) and the horn part mounts to the handlebars. I've had to use it several times (115 dB on full blast ;D), but most of the time the drivers don't even know what's going on to begin with. Dang those cars with their fancy sound insulation! >:( ;)

Oh, yeah?

Well, I installed one of these on my Jetta, just so everyone can actually hear me screaming, "FACK YOU, MORON!"

Kidding.   ;D
