The Pope gets a Phaeton
« on: October 19, 2006, 07:12:52 pm »
...and not just any Phaeton. A 450 HP W12 Phaeton! I'm not even gonna get into the odds that the Pope would  even use the 450 horses. And didn't he get a free Volvo XC90 V8 a while back? But anyway:

I guess driving a skoda and using the saved cash to help the sick and the poor and the downtrodden didn't enter his mind.

Wasn't the car given to him by VW?   I suppose VW could have given him a Polo and donate the difference to Catholic charities.

No..the better way is for the Pope to force the Vatican to sell the car, and give the money to charity.  But that won't happen.  Afterall, he is the head of one of the most corrupt religions on the planet....

Trying to start a flame war here or something?

One religion is no more corrupt than the other. I pity people who don't realize this.

If it starts a flame war, so be it.  I stand by what I say.  Any religion that actively seeks to protect their priests who have molested children IS corrupt...Save your pity for the kids....

Oh never mind.  The Pope is too easy a target for comments about hypocrisy, helping the poor, charity, all that foolishness.

I'm Catholic(not a good believer, though) and I respect the Pope by all means, but I don't like this idea.
Even if he didn't actually buy the car(it's probably given by VW..), he is the leader of a huge religious group.
There are priests who sacrifice their lives to save one more person, and there are also priests involved in disgusting crimes, just like rrocket mentioned.
And the leader rides an SUV given by a luxury car maker, then 450HP W12 Phaeton in only a few weeks?? Nonsense.
Isn't it time for him to take care of his people rather than accepting all the carmakers' great free offers?
I understand a leader of a group must keep his dignity, but I never think keeping one's dignity is to have multiple luxury cars..

With all that armour the car is carrying, I'm not surprised it was a W12 Phaeton.  In fact, if they really want any measure of performance, they'll probably be sourcing an engine from Bugatti any day now...

Do you think he knows any of them poor people at all? I doubt it as it will be the same with every religion for the guy at the top. They already are the richest organiztion in the world i believe in Cash and yet the poor have to keep going on with less and giving more if they want to be blessed.  :(

Rich as in what? I don't think anything in the Vatican belongs to the Pope. In fact having been to Vatican City, I see it as a giant treasure trove museum of sorts. Look at it this way, these folks seem like a religious order in the form of historical curators. Do a visit there and you will be glad that there is atleast an organization doing its part to preserve some of earth's richest history artifact.
About giving to the poor, hey the last I strolled along downtown east Van (main & hastings area), I counted around 5 Christian type missions serving the area. Yet to see a masjid, a temple or synagogue there. Same when I was at the Jarvis st. area back in Toronto. No I am not a Catholic by a long shot, but let's be fair. Saying the Pope or RC a or any religionas a corrupt religion just shows a heavy biasedness and hidden agenda on one's part. There are alot more priests and nuns sacrificing their lives in the slums of Calcutta and ardent wasteland of Sudan educating kids or building simple infrastructures but only to one day be shot by some nut case jihadist. Where is the appreciation? It's easier to see the negative than postives don't we?
I see VW being a German brand is just proud to have a German Pope. If Poland manufacturs cars, I am sure JP II will have a Polish car too. Hey, atleast it wasn't a Cayenne Turbo. Whoa!  ;D
