2006 Jetta TDI - Gas Mileage
« on: October 19, 2006, 05:30:40 pm »
I could swear I'm getting better gas mileage around town - max speed of 80 kph compared to occassional highway driving at 90 to 120 kph.  ???  Anybody had a similar experience?

Yes, 75-90km/h is best in my TDI experience, and I would imagine for most cars.

Natural Resources Canada's testing for 'highway' mileage actually only gets up to 97km/h and averages a speed of 77km/h. http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/Publications/transportation/fuel-guide/2006/testing.cfm?attr=8

Also, according to Energuide
"Avoid speeding. Increasing your highway speed from 100 km/h to 120 km/h can increase fuel consumption by about 20 percent."

Curious, are you satisfied with your mileage and the car?

I'm quite happy with the car especially the 40-45 mpg in the city.  Considering, I traded a 2003 Maxima in on it, I'm not missing the extra trips to the gas station!

The only problem I had with it was the control module for the power memory seats.  The auto-memory function for the seat position coded to the key fobs worked most of the time especially at the VW dealer.  After a few tries, they finally replaced the contol module and it works properly all the time now.  Personally, I prefer Golfs (had a 99 Wolfburg) but the new Rabbit doesn't have the memory seats or the TDI so...

Clean Diesel should have been in all retail locations that sell diesel ( except the territories I think) on October 15th.

Good to hear.

I miss the mileage myself and will likely get back into one in 4-5 years.

All those comics in Canada trying to make a decent living and you go giving it away for free - shame! :rofl2:  Speaking of diesel, currently in Victoria, Regular is 99.9/l while diesel is 95.9.  What's it like across the rest of Canada?  Some times diesel is pricier than gas.  I heard the price depends on it's other use as heating fuel.  Comments?

It's expensive in Western  :o :o

Here in Ottawa, is around 85 cents and 99 cents for diesel.

Are you saying diesel is 14 cents a litre MORE that regular in Ottawa?

That's what I saw last week-end when I fill up my car.
