It looks nice IMO, although I’m not overly impressed with the centre stack; it doesn’t seem to “flow” very well. I don’t particularly like the air vents and the silver treatment. The cargo space would be rather small too. Anyway, it’s nice overall for a little cute-ute.

Looks promising... I'd like to see (and would consider) a TDI 4WD version.  I'm hoping it's priced in line with the CRV diesel due in the next year or so, which is currently the front runner for my next vehicle to replace the P5.  If so, I'd be shopping both and see what suits us better.  If it's RDX priced, then the CRV will be in our driveway.

I would've liked to see a higher beltline.. more like the Touareg. This one looks too wagon-ish to me.  ;D

If it provides as much interior space as I'm thinking it will with such  compact exterior dimensions and TDI power, I may be onboard.

And with shots like these, I'm liking the exterior much more than before...

The current issue of Car&Driver has an article on the Tiguan... say it'll come to the US in a 2.0T and 2L diesel in both 6-speed auto and manual.  Pricing is expected to start at $24K USD, a little higher than the CRV and RAV4.

So, I guess we'll be looking at low to mid-$30's base price here.

NOOOO!!! Resist the urge to join the SUV dark side!  You only want it 'cause it has VW on its butt!

Look at the earlier pics, VW's own testing proved that SUVs a menace to other road users!  ;D

Remember your own past words.  You want a Mercedes-Benz B-class 200T...

The press release says that it's the first SUV in the world to be powered exclusively by forced-induction engines.

Excuse me?  What about the Mazda CX-7?  The Acura RDX?

Marketing team casually classifies CX7 and RDX as "CUVs"

Marketing team are idiots.  The Tiguan was built off of the Golf platform, making it just as much of a CUV as anything else out there.

Looking good... and I'd definitely shop this when it arrives, but if it's priced closer to $40K, it'll be off the list most probably.

Is it arriving here for the 2009 model year? Spring or Fall?

Yeah, think it'll be priced $32,5 - $46ish. But for the price of what a B-Class would be I'd have a better all-rounder: still efficient, I could have AWD, a vehicle that could tow (5,500lbs!), is a tad larger inside I think, and likely less expensive to service. Versus a CR-V diesel would be close and I'd be shopping both but believe the Tiguan is even shorter (I like compact, Tiguan is wider tho) and would likely drive better even if significantly more expensive.

2.0T April-June '08CY as an '09MY. Think the CleanTDI supposedly follows a few months later (late summer/fall) although now some talk it may not come till early '09CY as an '10MY. Really, I bet some inside VW don't even know timing yet.

Much more photos and details on Volkswagen.de now http://www.volkswagen.de/vwcms_publish/vwcms/master_public/virtualmaster/de3/modelle/Tiguan.html?nowin=1&csref=tiguan-SR

Thanks for the insight.  Right now the CRV diesel is the front runner (I love Honda's), but if this is price competitive (even if a bit pricier) and offers a diesel, then I'll definitely shop it.  The Mrs. really loves the look of the Tiguan, but like myself, is still leary of "VW reliabilty".

I like the lines well enough, and TDI sounds good to me.

I really like the European interior, but suspect that the pop-up tables for the rear passengers won't find there way here. We had these on our last rental in the UK in July, and they were really handy for rear-seat passengers - yet I have never seen these in North America yet.

The front seats look to have great thigh support - something that is missing from alot of cars these days. 6 speed turbo-diesel - yum!

I will be interested in having a look-see when it comes out.
