I heard the exterior dimensions on the 07 Altima will be shrunk a bit compared to the 06 model. Don't know about the interior though.

Wouldn't you consider the TL and Passat V6 as direct competitors? I would.
 And I would choose the TL over the Maxima if I'd be on the market for a FWD. Actually I suspect the new Altima is going to be more interesting than the Maxima.  |

What I wonder most about CVT transmission is, what they gonna be like for a cold canadian winters after a few years? B/C they use a belt right? Do the really work like a normal box? Or is it weird? I know you say even on this which you say is ok. So I'll ask dumb question do you have to get the belt change after a cetain period. They are lot of things that people don't understand about CVT's . |

1" shorter wheelbase but the interior volume is supposed to remain the same with the trunk also being about the same size. |

There were reports of driveability issues on cold cold starts a few years ago when Nissan first introduced their CVT in Canada. I believe it had to do with the oil viscosity chosen for heat protection (CVT can generate lots of heat). This must have been addressed since I haven't read or heard anything these past couple of years. I can see that being a major concern considering the performance available with synthetic oils. Nissan used a steel belt. If it is comparable to a chain, it may not required to be replaced (similar to an engine timing chain) but I'm speculating. I've had the CVT for one winter in Toronto and never had any issues with starting on cold days, I'm very happy with the CVT |

CVT is that like the toy with the two sticks and a string between them that you put double cone on and balance it back and forth on the string with upward motions on the stick handles...anyone remember THAT!!!!  OR am I just DAF '"T".....  |

I meant real cold mornings (-30 deg.C).  But glad to hear you haven't experienced any concerns. The CVT got bad publicity because of GM (Vue) but it seems Nissan has succeeded where GM didn't. |

I guess the intent is to give an option for a smaller cup for the driver... and for the passenger to hold his/her drink if it doesn't fit...  |

For $46,000 the Maxima should be a better car than it in fact is.
When are people going to wake up to the fact that the imports are not the be-all and end-all of good sports sedans?

leop makes a decent point, and sometimes the import bias on here is a bit overbearing.
There are good domestic cars out there, it's just that a lot of ppl on here have never tried them recently, or are basing their comments on a 1985 Chev. It's more a "grey area", rather than black and white - not all imports are great, not all domestics are poor. |

leop, how much do you do for the mpg on your SS ? It's the 4 cylinders desactivation is a good feature of just a marketing thing ? |

My ride to Toronto and back in a rented loaded Impala had to be the most uninspiring and tiring ride ever, the latest Impala from GM is a step backwards. Our rental was full of electrical glitches, CEL and Air bags, the vehicles tracking on the 401 was pityful, the seats were terrible, the engine was totally anemic. Besides the good looks of the Impala it's not much of a car underneath the skin. As for a good north american to drive, the 300 tops my list, I had one in BC for a week this spring and that car I enjoyed a lot and would consider.
