CR-V Dreams Dashed
« on: October 15, 2006, 09:59:28 am »
My dream of owning a shiney new 07 CR-V have been dashed, squashed & mangled.  The other half has said a big resounding NO. <sniff><sniff><sniff>.  I've been told putting snow tires on my Accord is a lot less of an expensive purchase.

I guess I'm going to have to wait for another 2 years when the lease on it expires to get that shiney new CRV.  Who knows maybe the new Accord will have AWD.  C'est la vie.

We cry with you Wetson. <sniff, sniff>

Most of us have probably experienced the other half saying, "What, are you crazy???"

Aaahh...... the burden of being born with an inherent talent of a greater appreciation of automobiles....  ;)

p.s. look at it on the other hand - you'll have more money when the lease expires and really appreciate that, and the CRV may have gone through its minor mid-cycle refresh by that time....

You just need to sell some more properties and have so much cash on hand that you have to do something. Armed with all that moolah - she won't care and even the initials MB might sound nice to her. ;D ;)

True enough but she's not a name snob.  I've noticed that a lot of Agents drive MB's.  Personally I can't stand them (Except for the 500 series).  I'd much prefer an Acura, Lexus or Jag.

Are house sales down where you work? They seemed dead for a while around my neighbourhood, whereas they used to be "flying off the shelves" so to speak.

My next door neighbour is an agent, his main car is a BMW 545 (or whatever it's called now) and his backup is an older Merc C class

The selling agent for my house: Bling-bling Escalade. Recently replaced by another bling-bling Escalade.

My cousin was a real-estate agent for many years (not sure what she does now, haven't kept in touch). I remember her upgrading from a Corolla to a BMW 3-series shortly after starting out. No choice she said, she was selling in Westmount. I heard she made a lot of money though, so sounds like it was worth the risk.

As I've stated before, my parents are r/e agents, my Dad has the Lexus ES330 and my Mom has the Porsche Cayenne, my Mom tends to be the one that deals with the clients at the initial stages

I love that Lexus 330...... The new one is "sexier" according to most, but I loved the lines, interior, wood trim of the 330......

It drives boring though like a Camry huh? No improvements there?

The lexus is what it is, a more luxurious version of the Camry.  It's bulletproof.  I find it to be really boring but my Dad is very happy with it.  I like the looks of the new one, however, unsurprisingly I also like the looks of the new Camry.  I'm sure they would both drive the same.

No way.  The new ES350 is even more refined than the ES330.  I drove the new 350, and in every way, shape, form it's a better car than the Camry or ES330.  It is among the quietest cars you'll ever drive.  Lexus claims the new ES350 to be as quiet as the original LS400...and if you've ever been in one of those, you can understand that's quite a bold statement.  Even to this day, the 15+ year old LS400 is STILL one of the quietest cars on the road.  When in the ES, everything feels "better" than the Camry, which by itself is a great car.  I can honestly say, that if I for some reason had to buy a car but keep it for 5 years, the ES350 would be high on my list.

It doesn't do anything spectacular in any one area, it just does alot of things very, very good.  It's quick, luxurious, very quiet, handles good,. The interior is amazing.  I rather like the daring, distinguished oval in the center stack.  With recent interior trends being edgy, I kinda like the organic oval shape. The gauges are so crytal clear, crisp and legible, it's amazing. The keyless remote entry and start was cool.  Keep the transmitter in your pocket, and as soon as I touched the door it unlocked.  Sit down and touch the brake and starter, and the car starts. It's seemless. I mean, you didn't have to wait for anything..as soon as I touched the handles, the doors were open..instantly.

Anyways...I really like this car.  It's not sporty handling, but it's not luxobarge handling either.  It closer to the sportier side of luxury.  The engine is silky smooth and quiet.  You don't think it's sport car quick, but you do go "wow" and think there's plenty enough power to amuse.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to hear the Mark Levinson system.  If you get a chance to, try to listen to the Levinson system some day.  It's probably the cleanest most perfect sounding OEM stereo.  I've heard it in the SC430, and it's amazing. Hands down the best I've ever heard.  I'm sure it's just as good as the SC.

So to sum up..the Camry and previous ES are both great car.  But neither can hold a candle to the new ES.  I just think it's such a tremendous leap forward for the ES, and such a pleasant car to drive.  I was really suprised I liked it so much.  Great car!!

That's where I'm lucky; after this summer's road trips in the 98 Legacy Wagon, my wife said, "I think you need a new car soon"...

Don't worry about it, Wetson, in a year or two you may wish for something more than a CR-V. Then, you'll be free to do as you wish, and more experience under your belt may mean you have a different target market for vehicles. I sure wouldn't get bent over not being able to get an '07 CR-V... ;D ;D

I really really really like the new ES350 ... Not so much with the TSX.  :) not that it makes any difference ... it is your car. Too many TSXs around anyway ... I would not get one for that reason, being the particular individual that I am.  :) Tons of torque in the ES350.
