Honda Odyssey wheel size & winter tire
« on: October 08, 2006, 06:58:13 am »
A friend of mine has a brand new Odyssey 06 and she's looking to get Winter tire. The current size is kind of strange...235/65 R16 .

Can she put something smaller ?

Is there a difference in winter tire if it's for a car or a minivan ??

Any suggestion would please her..... ;D She's doing about 15-20,000 km during the winter in the Montreal area. 70% city/30% highway.

Thanks !!

Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50 are the only passenger winter tires in that size at the moment.  Probably fine in terms of suiting her driving, too.

Wheels should be easier to find.  Are steel wheels what she wants, or does she want aluminum?  Morty should be able to help point you in the right direction.  Many tire shops will also sell "take off" wheels, and likely, the Odyssey will have the same or similar sized wheels to other Hondas.
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow - who wouldn't love the internal combustion engine?  ;D

Steel wheels are available. You are very limited in the stock size as WS50 is the only tire currently available. Here are some options:

Thanks Morty.

What would be the minimum size that she can put instead of the 235/65 R16 ?

We have had some customers running a 215/70R16 as an option. OD is the same, however, load carrying is a little less.

It's mainly for transporting light material for her job and once in a while, 5-6 passengers.....I guess it's not a problem ??

Have you had feedback on driving stability ?

Thanks

I put 225/70/16 Nokian WR SUV's on my 2005 Odyssey. They are awesome. Good last winter and ride is totally fine.

225/70/16 would be a good alternate as well. This will just give you some options as opposed to none....

Now my friend has few choices..... ;D

Gislaved Nord Frost 3 (225/70R16)
Nokian Hakkapeliitta SUV (215/70R16)
Toyo OpenCountry G02 (215/70R16)
Yokohama Geolander IT+ (215/70R16)

My heart is going to Gislaved  or Nokian ...........

Hankook iPike RW07 vs. Bridgestone Blizzak WS60 - which is better for its price?

I too am concerned with down sizing the tire to 215/70/R16 from the stock 235/65/R16

IPike RW07 is a true truck tire with a very high load rating - these Odys come with Michelin Energy LX4s or some sort of Bridgestone Turanza as std equipment.  The hankooks will likely make the Ody ride rough  and eat away at already poor fuel economy.

I had an 05 Ody and ran Blizzaks in the 235/65R16 size for 2 winters and they worked well, but did eat up fuel economy as well.

As an aside, they were stolen right out of my driveway one night (Honda wheel locks are not good) in the 2nd winter as these rims and tires in this size are rare - it set me back over $1000 for rims, tires and sensors.  At least they had the courtesy to block up the van with bricks (that they apparently brought with them!!) rather than letting it rest on the brake rotors after they stole the rims.

For the next 2 winters I just ran the All Season michelins and they worked just fine - the vehicle is heavy enough to get traction and the Michelins are a pretty soft compound so grip is decent.
