Gislaved Winter Tire
« on: October 06, 2006, 06:36:29 am »
They seemed to be very good winter tire but I hardly see any comments on them ????

Is it because they are not known or bad ?

Thanks for giving your input  :)

I have the NordFrost 3 on the X-Trail.  Excellent snow tire - it expells snow well from the outer tread and bites well in corners.  Decent on ice.

Not in Sweden.  That's why Ikea stuff is so cheap.

I was always under the impression that the unwritten rule was that they could only be installed on Volvo's or Saabs.    ;)

I knew a colleague who had them on his Audi Coupe.   He seemed to like them.   I have no idea where someone could buy them though, except for maybe a Volvo or Saab dealer.

If you like paying double.  :)

Steelcase Tire in Markham.  Nord Frost 3 215/65/16 = $115.

The 5 is just the newer design is what I was told by Steelcase... it has a center runner channel.  Basically the same thing though.  Ordered these on Monday for our new Civic and will be picking them up today.  Hopefully they perform as well as what I've heard about the 3's... and the same as the Nokian Hakka 1's I had on my Prelude several years ago.

Right now I'm using Nordic Icetraks on the Protege5, and while they are ok, they cannot compare to the Nokians... when these need replacing I will spend a bit more for the added winter weather performance, but I was trying to limit the costs when I got them since I was getting steelies too.  But that's why I ponied up and got a better tire this time round for the Civic.

Just had a set of Gislaved 5's put on today.  The car feels a little bit different driving it but not to bad.

The 5s have a higher speed rating than the 3s.  More suited to GTA driving where it's mostly slush v. actual snow on the roads.

I put the NordFrost 5 on my Mazda 3 last week, I commute 1 hour to toronto from Orangeville and so far, they handle the road a bit different but well and I have not noticed any noise increase which I normally get with winter the tires...   so far so good... :)

I'm finding the same.  Minimal noise increase (A little bit on the Accord) and the handling seems to be unchanged.  I'm liking them so far.
