I wonder why there's significant interest for an inexpensive, RWD roadster, but no demand for a similarly priced, RWD, performance coupe (a la Nissan 240SX)?

The Sky/Solstice are much more dramatically styled and have relatively limited competition.  The 240SX had a great suspension, but it had a lot more competition and begged for more power.   If a current manufacturer could come out with a stylish, RWD coupe with about 250 hp and a price tag of about 30-35g's, they would sell like hotcakes.

Great handling and sub 6-second 0-60 roadsters in this price range are non-existent. GM will sell tones of these single purpose summer fun machines. Some people just like to go out and drive.

I love it, good on GM for bringing something like this to the market place at that price.

As mentioned above I wish more companies would come out with RWD coupes priced in the high 20s to mid 30s.

Its because with a roadster you can sell the performance factors to an enthusiast and the style/poser to non-enthusiast. Its worked for the Miata for years - core of enthusiasts and then a pile of secretary types bringing up the sales. Same with Mustang too - most are V6/auto which allows the V8 to be producable for a decent price. Most sports car coupes end up being turned into higher priced GT cars (like the Datsun/Nissan Z over its lifetime). Sure I'd love a sports tintop in the Triumph GT6 mold but the market is quite small - most would rather have a Solara or 350Z.

As far as the 240SX goes - lack of power, bland styling and price were the death of it.

I know it's been talked about lots before, but with the lack of trunk space when the top is down, I would be hard pressed to want this vehicle as nice as it looks(and it does look good) and as good as it performs (Redlines have always been enticing performers).

What good is a car when the furthest you can drive is limited by the amount of space you have to take a couple of overnight bags with you? I'd want to be able to go away at least for a couple of days of joy-riding, mixed with bed-&-breakfast stays and you can't do this unless the top is up, which is counter productive to me. The Miata, Eos and even the old MGs and Triumphs have space for overnight bags, too bad the Sky/Soltice do not.

Nope - I still think it's a big deal, but since I am not buying one today, I get your point and will quit the whinning already. 

I think it is dependent of the expectations. As a summer fun machine it is without competition for the price. As a daily driver primary vehicle there are some issues.
