Test Drive:
2007 Volkswagen Eos

2007 Volkswagen EosThe Eos' nifty convertible hardtop, which includes an industry-first sliding glass sunroof, quickly transforms this all-weather coupe into a tres chic mobile tanning salon, says Peter Bleakney.  "The interior is a very nice place to spend some time," he reports. "A big surprise is how much room there is in the back seat for two adults." The Eos' 2.0-litre turbocharged four "has no problem motivating this car with brio," he reports, but trunk space is "skimpy" and its rear-end styling is "ungainly".            More...

Are you serious?  $50K?  $36K for the droptop would be a pretty good deal, $50K knocks it out of bounds.

What is the deal with "leatherette". Is that some kind of female version of cow-hide or something??? First the new Mini has it as standard kit, and now the Eos. What are these manufacturers thinking???

Aside from that the only thing that could really make this thing a winner is to put in Audi quattro technology. Wouldn't that be something? A tubo-charged, AWD cabriolet? What more could one want??

The article mentions the V6 available in the USA.  That engine is available in some EU golfs with a Haldex based AWD system  Golf R32   In NA  the  Audi A3 3.2 comes like that.   Sooooooo they could do it if they wanted to.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Thats what I thought. They say the rear end looks ungainly? It looks good in the picture.I guess you have to see it in person.

Any new 3-series comes with leatherette as standard fair, too.  Real leather is an option.  I'm not sure about the rest of their model line, but I believe this is true of most of their cars.

In the specifications section it says:

Curb weight:                                     1672 kg (3686 lb.), DSG; TBA, manual
Curb weight (automatic transmission):   1235 kg (2723 lb.) auto.

Is there really a 963 lb weight difference?  If that was the case the automatic transmission would definately be the one to get.  Somehow I think this an error.  This car can't weigh 2723 lbs!

Don't automatic gearboxes generally add wait, anyway?  Definately a mistake...  iirc even the GTI weighs more than that, and that's minus a folding roof and motors.

I like this journalists description of the EOS - When somebody tries to get a size 18 butt into size 12 trousers, the result looks tragic.Dumpy and squat with the roof up, less so with it down.

Put me in the camp that doesn't like the rear end treatment at all. The rest seems OK. At $43K, this has some competition. But, then I'm not a VW fan at all.

Yes, VW Canada added the 5th colour "Candy White" to the original 4 colours.
