The MKV Jetta 2.5 is tanking!  Sad

90% of last 2 weeks showroom traffic is all for the Cities!
Stock is running low, we expect the Rabbit situation all over again, 2-4 month waiting period.

No big surprise. VW priced the City Jetta too low and they're going to have to fix that as it'll affect Jetta V too much, which is where they make their money. I wouldn't expect a flood of Rabbits either.

Of course, when anything is new, you EXPECT heavy showroom traffic on it for awhile. Sure is yellow...

They're not short sighted Meow.  Volkswagen (and other manufacturers, I hope) are waiting for the modified, clean diesel to arrive.  That's actually looking ahead, if you ask me.

You are correct.  Grin

Of course I am.  As usual, Meow is incorrect.    Grin

Greetings Everyone:

Has anyone out there driven a Volkswagon Golf City, with Automatic transmission.

I was wondering if the motor is as noisy as a 2003 Golf GL.

Also, has anyone installed a GPS unit in a Golf yet.

If yes, which make of GPS is the most reliable.

Regards Bob

So the general public doesn't care if it's the "new" design or not I guess?

Yeah how do you explain it?

This is the City Jetta, it's the "OLD" Jetta they replaced it with this nice new Jetta, but you can still buy this old one and it's fairly cheap to buy! haha  Man I think this is retarded.... just lower the price on the Jetta and be done with it.

Exactly the way, Top Gear explains the 996/997 911s.  Wink

Actually, a lot of people prefer the MKIV exterior design over the MKV, especially the Jetta.

I think the price is right, inline with Civic/Corolla/Mazda3 sedans. (17000~22000)

I think these will continue to sell well.

Reason? Pricing. And lots of standard features.

Look at the Cavalier, how well it sold, I gather because it was so inexpensive. I don't know what else was appealing about it...

Although I prefer the new one, I also like the old Jetta style - nostalgic.  Smiley

Brilliant.  This way they don't have to reduce the prices on the new Rabbit product, but can bring a $20K to market to go head to head with the Civic, Corolla, Fit and Yaris.  Thanks to paid-for tooling and cheap Mexico assembly (hhhmmm...) they can sell the car at that $20K mark with stuff like ESP and side-bags.

Hhhm.  Seems I was right...

Instead of increasing the price of the Cities... they should lower the price of the Mk5 a little bit... that would bring in even more people into their showrooms!

Agreed. They did it in the US and removed base equipment but in Canada the V was selling very well, so they essentially left alone (actually, they raised package prices slightly!) but with the Cities out this will have to be re-evaluated.

Let the show begin!
So, I have put my 97 K2 Golf on for sale.
In the mean time I'm shopping around.
I called a VW dealership in Calgary to see is they got the City Golfs in stock.
Well I got the old run around.
"well the wait time is like 2-3 months for a new city Golf" the dealer on the phone replies to my question.
" let me get your name and number and I'll talk to my manager, to see if we can get one in for you in like a week"
the dealer concludes with "well when we get one in , you have to purchase it, cause there just flying out of here"

I'm getting the old feeling that I'm being taken for.
Why cant buying a car be a fun and enjoyable experience?

I agree.

Because of the way its done.  Salespeople on commission.  A culture that says cars have to be sold with a "deal".  Rather bizarre pricing strategies between mfrs and dealers ( all the delivery charges, mfr incentives, low rate financing etc).  For some makes the dealers are too close together and have to attempt to steal custom just to stay afloat.

Notice that some "dealers" are now being called retailers...which may be a good sign although at present it tends to be manufacturers that dont offer much in the way of  "deals" like BMW and MB

It can be, sometimes it is the dealer that is preventing it, sometimes it is the customer.

When a customer insists they "must" get a car in 1 and only 1 color, the car has to be delivered within 48 hours, will not pay an extra cent if extra options have to be added, the car must not have more than 10km on the odometer.
You know it won't be a happy ending.

In any form of business, not only car sales, the more flexiable both parties are, the more enjoyable the experience will be.

I had a terrible experience when I first tried to buy the TSX. Condescending, arrogant, bullshitting......... saleslady.

I then e-mailed all the other dealers in Ontario, looking for my one and only specific color JSCC Grin, and ended up corresponding with a couple of very nice dealers. Funny thing is, with one of them, we kept corresponding even *after* I told him he was too late, I had already bought. He was nice and told me I got a good deal and that my dealer was a good one. 3 others said, "Congratulations!" (I e-mailed them back to let them know, so they wouldn't do anymore work in giving me numbers, etc.)

The dealership where I got my car was superb. For the first time, I never even thought of my salesman as a "salesman". He seemed like an "Acura advisor."

So, I'm convinced there are good salespersons/dealerships out there.

By the way, the manager of my dealership spoke to the manager of the first dealership about this saleslady's behaviour.
