How about that Mazda 1.5 from the mid 90s? You can find those for 600-800$

I wish there was a hand clapping smiley 'cause this is so cool. I'd love to be able to do this. Awesome.
There's a Caterham dealer in Caledonia (just south of Hamilton) and every once in a while you see one tearing around the town. |

Yeah and they are very LOTUS_CENTRIC like the whole early Miatas..... ..copy Katz...even to the pop up lights....oh well Flattery and all that...... The Miata styling is benchmarketed against the Elan. Driving style against against Triumph Spitfire (they even had a mule with Spitfire body and Miata mechanicals ). The engine (even styling of engine) was benchmarked against Alfa twin cam. How about that Mazda 1.5 from the mid 90s? You can find those for 600-800$
Is that not just a variant on the BP Miata engine? SOHC I believe so with less power and I'd still need Miata gearbox and such to convert rwd. Then deal with FI. The perfect motor doesn't really exist. I think it will either come down to the Miata stuff with aftermarket ECU or Suzuk G13B. I'd really like to use a Neon 2.0L engine with a Jeep Liberty 5spd and starter but not sure if the transmission would fit (motor would nicely) and the transmission is on the expensive side for some reason. I wish there was a hand clapping smiley 'cause this is so cool. I'd love to be able to do this. Awesome.

Caterhams are super nice but oh so pricey. I visited a Lotus/Caterham dealer over in England a number of years back. Drool. |

Finally got some time and space (Rx-7 is sold. Damn car was cursed - the buyer ripped off my license plate :x ) to work on the Seven. Thought I may as well throw in a new Excedy (OEM style) clutch while the engine is out of the car. Comparing to the old one its seems that was in rather good shape. Oh well I'll kept the old as a spare. New clutch in and aligned. Sure is easy when the motor is out. (I've never done a clutch before). I sure hope I assembled this properly. Failed to take any photos before. I'm pretty sure its right. Attached my Toyota T50 gearbox to the good 4AGE engine. Now to test fit. .. |

Did you bother to replace the pilot bearing? I get the feeling you left the flywheel on so you obviously didn't replace the crank oil seal. Did you rough up the flywheel? |

Replaced pilot bearing. Flywheel left as is. Why do I need to roughen up? (easier now than later!) No mounts yet just testing the engine position. Stock gearbox mount is usable if I weld it to the frame. Engine mounts aren't. Might be able to modify the Ford Crossflow mounts I have. |
