Well I bought my frame (I wimped out  Tongue) and bodywork. Steering rack, column is in - most of front suspension - just need to do a little grinding on the spindles. Wiring laid out but not hooked up (let's leave that for as long as possible). Should have a roller soon. Still need an engine but I'm thinking 1.6L Miata.

I was going to say the same thing, but I'm biased.  Wouldn't a Honda S2000 motor look nice in that car. Grin

Trouble is it would cost and arm & a NUT.......and make a big  DENT! in Arfurs piggybank.,,and that bodywork is quite err "flimsy" so  the torqueless S2000 would ensure it wouldn't turn into a PRETZEL THO" !!?Huh? Tongue Grin ROFL..maybe Railton will loan him the RX8
motivation over the Winter...and he could drive it to his ROTARY MEETINGS Wink

Engine height is a real issue - engine compartment is only 22" tall ...

The Miata engine fits ... just. The S2000 is engine is really tall and bulky so doesn't fit unless you go with a plus sized chassis. V8s also fit in the plus size but I want to keep it light and nimble. I could also go with a Toyota 4AGE but they are getting on in years now - the 20 valve version has promise but would have to be a ex-Japan import. I have a friend with a Ford crossflow four banger I likely won't go that route.

I'd love a rotary engine but packaging issues make the heat and exhaust noise hard to manage.

I have but I want to keep a traditional clutch and gearshift. Although the big Triumph three pot looks like a real nice fit. Bike engined cars generally work better with right hand drive as well.

Don't know how big it is, but a Subaru boxer should be "low".
That's my two uninformed cents.
By the way, looks nice Arthur.  Hope the project comes to completion.

What's that puppy going to weigh?  An old Civic Si engine?  Like the Miata's 4, lots of go fast parts and pretty compact.

The Subaru engines are rather too wide for the from end of a Seven. AWD with a Subaru or Audi isn't really practical as those engine hang out over the front axle. There have been a few 4WD Sevens using Ford Sierra 4x4 components or dual bike engines.

The Seven is really, really small - if I was any taller or a bit fat I would simply not fit. The engine compartment is rather small too being orig designed for little pushrod Ford and Austin engines. Most modern ones don't fit. The Ford Zetec mostly does (our 2.0L is taller than the Euro 1.6-1.8L ones) but its a PITA to get a tranny hooked up here (the common T5 is massive, the T9 rare and crappy). I wouldn't mind using a Jeep Liberty 4cyl tranny and a Neon 2.0L engine but that is going a bit into the unknown.

Most Honda engines turn the wrong way making rwd conversions more bother than its worth. Would make a nice engine for a mid engine car though. No engine is perfect but Miata is looking pretty good despite being on the heavy side.

Total weight should be in the 1100-1200 lbs range.
