You're full of it, Meow.

I can't resist the bate, when I see headlines like Toyota in 2nd place in sales. Its just too tempting. But also Its only my opinion  and what I have oberseved  Grin The public are no longer are buying as many Domestics cars. Why does everythink its a personal attack. Its not, its nothing personal at all. Its just I been saying that for years. Now we are now starting too see it more and more. Looks like now there evidence to support my opinions.

Your observations are wrong.  In 2004, the Pontiac Sunfire/Chevy Cavalier was Canada's best-selling car, if you combine the sales of the Pontiac and the Chevy (they're the same car sold under two different names).  The Sunfire/Cavalier outsold the Corolla and the Civic.

Mitlov, the link you provided shows Civic/Corolla @ 105,000 units and the Sunfire/Cav @ 65.000 units  Huh

The ppl that bought the Sunfire/Cavs ended up with cars with next to zero resale value and many repairs.  What are the Canadian Cobalt/Pursuit numbers I wonder?

I did not mean to add together the Civic and the Corolla.  After all, Honda and Toyota are not divisions of the same company like Chevrolet and Pontiac are, and the Civic and the Corolla are not the same car like the Sunfire/Cav are.  I meant to pit GM's compact sedan versus "either Honda or Toyota's compact sedan," not "both Honda and Toyota's compact sedans combined."

Yer but if you combine the two you can see what I've been saying all a long. Dispite how much hate mail and flames posts I've goten because of it. You only have to look across any car park in any shopping mall to see the Japanese cars out selling the domestic cars. If you just count the number of new cars. Its like I said that when I first posted here some years back.

The market no longer wants domestics. Already they are heafty discounting on the Pursits and Colbats, Which the head of GM said being interview on Car Business said That they wert going to do that with this car. You can pick up a Colbart for 12 + grand. Thats pretty tempting with the 160 click warranty now offered.....

Woah woah woah.  So the TWO largest import manufacturers COMBINED outsell ONE domestic manufacturer, and that is supposed to prove that "the market no longer wants domestics"?

Er yes I think so. Cars wise yes. People are buying the import brands, Like Hyundia, Nissan, Honda, Toyota more and more. In Van and other kinds of vehicles  thats a different story. But I if you look at  small to mediums cars, you see more newer Imports cars on the road than newer Domestic cars on the road. which to me is a decline in the domestics cars sales and a trend. Thats how I see it. Right or wrong Its just my theory and what I notice when walking and driving about the cities in Ontario. However they aways plenty of people who buy Domestics its not the end.

My ex-wife had two Cavs. Cheap IS the term I would use. I will grant that the first couple of years, they held up reasonably well, but after 3-4 years, they started showing their age very quickly and became fairly costly with many, niggling little issues and a few more major ones. BTW, she was religious in her maintenance and drove them VERY gently. I would give them a B- grade, not terrible by any means, but in no way outstanding.

In an effort to meet the increasing demand for product in North America and especially China, Toyota will increase their production levels by 40 percent over 2005 levels. According to Nihon Keizai Shimbun, a business daily in Japan, Toyota expects overseas output to exceed domestic production by 2009, even as output from their home country is set to increase by 9.5 percent by 2008.

Interestingly, the Japanese Automobile Manufactures Association announced that in March of this year, Japanese automakers as a whole eclipsed their own domestic output for the first time.

Although this increase in production portends good things for Toyota's future, their disturbing track record of recalls as of late may continue to be an issue if quality control doesn't keep up with their production numbers.

Comparing car sales by province?
Man! And I thought I was detailed oriented!  Roll Eyes

I don't know why you are so surprised.  Breaking down national sales by province for any big ticket item is quite reasonable, especially for a country as big and diverse as Canada.

Cars are not like batteries, serving identical needs and available cheaply everywhere.  A set of double A batteries will power the same digital cameras, mini-flashlights and other devices be they used in Newfoundland or BC.  A vehicle, by contrast is quite expensive and in many cases, somewhat specialized in its application.

You'd be surprised the amount and depth of research for batteries.  We have a battery client at the agency... man the things they research....   Wink

I really found the breakdown interesting.  It's neat to see that Quebec still values Mazda's really highly.  I'd heard that before too that per capita, Mazdas sell the best in Quebec.  I guess much of their mindset there is still more Euro-centric than the perhaps more 'Americanized' rest of Canada and they value some driving enjoyment from the Zoom Zoom mobiles (and rightfully so!).

***

Meow, what the $^&* is the point in you spouting off your personal opinion / 'observations' from your limited peer group here and presenting it as fact.  "Oh, nobody wants to buy domestics anymore"... pff...  If I were to base give a similar observation, I'd suggest that:  a)  All Toyotas rust because the old Toyota I had rusted... b) Nobody wants to buy Toyotas anymore beause they don't make anything that appeals to me and none of my family or friends have bought a Toyota recently.  Obviously statistically this is a crock of shite, and offers as much value as your 'theories' in this thread too.

There are more domestics out there that I'd personally spend my money on before a number of imports.  At least cars like the Mustang and Corvette (and pending Camaro) stir my soul a bit.  What the hell does Toyota have that could even wake me up?

Because everyone flame years ago. When I said that toyota were out selling the dometics....Anyways Its more a generalisation than a fact. never said it was a fact I said it just my opinion right or wrong. I just notice more new import cars on the road than new domestic. Grin

Toyota have that could even wake me up?

Toyota Celica Thats about it......... Undecided
