Sometimes in stop and go (particularly on a large hill) it would be nice to have the convenience of an automatic.  But I'm willing to sacrifice that convenience for the enjoyment I get the other 90% of the time I'm driving.

Well eventually the Hill Start Assist feature popular in Europe and starting to show up on SUVs here will make this concern a thing of the past. The manumatic type trans available on so many vehicles are really falling short of duplicating the satisfaction of driving a stick shift and of providing the same level of control/driver's involvement.

I'm familiar with Subaru's "Hill Holder" clutch - that's only available in higher end models starting with the Forrester... Not in the impreza - I'll have to look up Hill Start Assist and see if it's the same idea.  I haven't driven a car equipped with it but I think it might be nice.

Agreed on the manumatic's.

BMW has said it will offer a proper six speed manual on the 2007 M5, as a matter of fact.  AMG does not offer manuals, and that's a big reason I would take the M5 over the E-class AMG any day.  Smiley

All this talk of how fast an auto can shift is kind of pointless - it still lacks the feel of a real manual.  And that's what matters.  Smiley

As for the Charger...  gimme.  Smiley  Drop the six speed stick from the Challenger in there and you've got a real car.
