02 Forester vs 02 Impreza
« on: September 05, 2006, 10:35:57 am »
Hi folks. New here, but looking for opinions re 2 vehicles I'm considering:

 2002 Subaru ImprezaTS SportWagon
 Price : $ 11500
Kilometers : 93000
Engine : 2.5 Litre
Transmission : Standard
Options : Air Conditioning, All Equipped, AM/FM Stereo, Anti-Lock Brakes, Bucket Seats, Cassette, Cruise Control, Dual Air Bag, Fog Lights, Hubcaps, Intermittent Wipers, Power Brakes, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Steering, Power Windows, Rear Defroster, Tilt Wheel

                                V.S.
Forester S 2002
Price : $ 10900
KIlometres: 203,000
Engine : 2.5L
Options : Air Conditioning, Alarm, All Equipped, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM Stereo, Anti-Lock Brakes, Bucket Seats, CD Player, Cruise Control, Dual Air Bag, Fog Lights, Heated Mirrors, Heated Seats, Intermittent Wipers, Keyless Entry, Power Brakes, Power Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Steering, Power Trunk, Power Windows, Rear Defroster, Spoiler, Sunroof, Tilt Steering, Tilt Wheel, Tinted Glass, Timing belt changed at 160K

I already own an 01 Forester, from new, and obviously am happy with Subarus.  Any thoughts which of thes vehicles would be best as a long term keeper?
Thanks

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think the best long term keeper is the the one with 109,000 less km.

:iagree:

You get a lot less km's for the small amount of extra cost.

This assumes all else is equal, no accidents or other issues.

Thanks folks for the advice and opinions; much appriciated.
I think, however I may consider another option, an '03 Legacy wagon L, standard, air, sunroof, with 1003,000k.  It is one owner, dealer maintained and serviced and traded back to the original dealer for an '06 Legacy. The asking price is $13,900.  One of my concerns is that it has a tow package.  The sales guy says that the previous owner occasionally towed a utility trailer.  Should this be a concern?
Thanks Again

WOW, over 1 million thousand on the clock. I know Subarus really last, but that's outstanding! BTW, is that kilometres or miles?  ??? :rofl2: :rofl2:

Seriously, if it has truly been occasional utility trailer use, I would not be at all concerned.

Actually, one million and three thousand highway Kms, so probably OK, eh?. ( Sorry re. typo; it of course should read 103,000km.)

Yeah, I wouldn't be too concerned with occasional trailer pulling. However, occasional means different things to different people, and dealers are in business of selling cars...

Be concerned about towing with AT versions, not so much manuals.  It's not that Subie AT's are weak, it's just a fact that slushboxes suffer heat build up when towing.
