Who watches Test Drive on the Speed Channel?

I PVR'd the one where Kendall rips around in the M cars.  Oh man, I'm in love with the Z4M Coupe.  It's like one big commercial....but when you're talking M cars, I'm listening.

The ripped around in Z4M Coupe/Roaster, M5, and M6.  Drove along US roads, German autobahn, Austrian alps...it was fantastic.

One scene was a bit disturbing....Hans Stuck was rolling in the M6 down the autobahn testing the top speed.  He's flying at 190mph in the left lane but had to slam on the brakes as a left lane hog didn't move over.  I think he caught a napping driver when he barreled in on him at almost 200mph.  Good thing was he didn't pass on the right.

No such thing as a left lane hog in Germany, only in Canada and the USA.  Hans was probably travelling so fast he came upon this guy to quick for him to react in time and move over.  Plus visibility on the autobahn is excellent. Majority of the autobahn is only two lanes except when you get around major cities. Big NO NO in Deutschland passing on the right!

Last trip to Germany I rented a 530d inline 6 diesel, fast! Cruising at 250kph and always checking my rear view mirror I had a Porche, which seemed to appear out of nowhere, which didnt give me much time to react and move to the right.  Did the ride through the Alps, what a blast!! Going again this August. Renting a 325.

Is car renting in Germany along the same lines regarding cost and regulation (age restrictions...) as Canada?  I'd love to go somewhere and rent a MT car for once...

Renting a car in Germany is fairly straight forward. As for age restrictions, I'm not sure. The company I rent from all the time is sixt.de. they have a good selection of luxury cars and the prices are pretty low, the lowest I've found to date. My last stay they had a weekend special, a BMW Z4 for 111.00 Euro.  Thats about $150 Canadian. Try renting a Z4 for that here in Canada. The most expensive car they have to rent is a 6 Series, BIG BUCKS! The web site is a bit of a pain in the arse to navigate.

Anyway Sixt Auto rental is great. I booked a 3 series BMW back in 2004, when we got there they didn't have the 3 series so they gave me a loaded 5 Series for the same price as the 3. I thought I had won the lottery when I found out I was getting the 5 series.  They have a special right now, rent a BMW 3er for 934. Euro a month...BOOKED.

Booking  online ensures a low price as opposed to walking in.

Cheers!

SO about $2000CDN for a 5 day rental in a 911, $400 a day, 200 free KMs, $2 per K. At 300Km/h, $2 buys 12 seconds of joy. Either that or Toonie Days at KFC.  :D :)

If that's too expensive, rent it for one day ;-)
Don't forget, they throw in the Autobahn for free.
