10 seconds for 0-100 sounds very slow. Even I can do 0-100 at 8 seconds without much trying (used only 1st-2nd-3rd gears though).

The model tested was an automatic though - usually on smaller engines the slushboxes are significantly slower than the manual versions. |

Add me to the list of fans. I went with the Legacy instead because I needed the room and wanted the Legacy's interior and sunroof...but the Impreza is extremely cool. I love that the engine noise is more clearly audible (I love that flat-four warble), and I really like the new front end. |

Hmm. Correct me if I'm wrong, but was the Suzuki Aerio forgotten here? An SX with AWD should be listed at 23k
That's a good point. Unless there were some changes to the Aerio recently which disqualifies it from this category. |

It would be a difficult choice between the Impreza 2.5i and the Mazda 3 hatchback. Both are great choices. |

AWD is best, but I learned to drive in Colorado winters with FWD cars, and with proper tires, they'll get through most stuff too. And besides the winter issue, the Mazda3 does offer superior fuel economy and excellent handling. I'd still go with the Impreza for the character of the flat four, the superior safety ratings, and the aesthetics, but the Mazda does offer some advantages too. |

Ha Ha. Only when compared to the Impreza, not Civics or Corollas. |

I personally like the new front end. I also think this is a great deal for the money. Like a couple of the other guys here, I'd have to go WRX though, and I'd hate it every time I had to fill up. |

But I was comparing the Impreza to the Mazda3, not other models. See the two posts above mine. |

I am planning to buy this exact model soon.
The Freight($535) in the review is quite reasonable. One dealer quote me the MSRP freight of $1495.

$1495 I see $1,495 too. Maybe that's the Freight/PDI combo together Subaru charges? If so it's still high by $200-600 hundred compared to mainstream competitors (ie $1,225 for Fit or Civic). |

OK, since no one else is answering, I will. Yes, someone does know when the new Impreza is due. Unfortunately, I have no idea who that person is. |

Does anybody know what size winter tire will fit on this model? The stock tire is a 205/55-16 so I know that will fit but they're darn expensive! I see some websites listing 205/60-15 and 195/65-15's.
When I called the dealership they weren't much help. They said that Subaru recommends the same size winter tire as the stock. A 2005 model of the same car allows a 16" or 15" I was told but for the 2006 model they're recommending an exact match of the stock tire size. They gave me some line about alternative sizes affecting the performance of the car and the AWD system. I'm planning on calling Subaru Canada to confirm. I'm also wondering if I go against the recommendations and use a 15" rim will my warranty be affected?
I'm new to the site so this may be better posted elsewhere but I thought I'd give this a shot. Thanks!! |
