breaking it down

36 months x $567 = $20412
down payment          $1000
if you buy it out      $17,800
Total                     $39,212 after 3 years
seems steep to me

Not sure what the sticker is on the car.  CRV EX L

With all of the rigamarole that goes on in pricing and tradeins and stuff...how can the average person ever find out the price.

By a lot of researching, argumentation with the dealers. An experience that should be pleseant and enjoyable so is rarely so...

Better late than never... but this is how my deal was put together

2008 Pontiac G5 GT Coupe (5-speed, only options added were the sunroof and the block heater)

---------------------------------------------------------
MSRP                               - $25,175
Negotiated Price                 - $22,393  ($300 over invoice)
GM Visa Points                   - $850
Student Bonus                   - $546    (2 free payments... $273 x 2)
GM Wish & Win Promo          - $1,000
GM Winter Windfall Promo    - $1,250
Total Selling Price              = $18,747

Lease Rate = 0%

Monthly Payment = $273.00 including all taxes

Down Payment = $0 (...it's a lease... who would put money down on one anyways!?!?)

All-in-all I think I did quite well with it considering it was the first new vehicle I had ever purchased..

2011 Hyundai Elantra GLS 6 speed manual

Features:
Block heater
Front & rear mud guards
Chrome exhaust tip
Front & rear floor mats
Paint protection
Undercoating
Paint protection film on hood, bumper, fenders, & door handles (not 3M but similar)
Lifetime oil changes (at dealership only)

Negotiated price: $21,630 (incl taxes & fees) + $2000 trade.  Good deal for buying in Edmonton, but took some haggling, and I eventually realized I passed up a better offer earlier from another dealership.
Financing at 2.99%, which isn't bad for a model that's only been for sale two months.

Caretaker007, you can find out dealership invoice pricing at a website like CarCostCanada.   http://carcostcanada.com/1/en/default.asp

IMHO, it's a great tool to use when shopping for a new vehicle.  It's much easier to negotiate when you know what exactly what the dealerships pay,  It also provides you will all of the latest incentives as well.

To answer Caretaker007's question, you should check out carsaver.ca. They provide free invoice price report aka dealer's cost of the car along with available factory incentive and rebates. If you're in the market for a car, you should go to the site to gather info so that you are better prepared when talking with dealers. Dealers often times do not tell you about the incentive and rebates which makes a huge difference to the price of the car. Good luck!

I'm looking at getting a Mazda3 Sport in the near future. Has anyone bought one of these in the past few months? What did you pay vs. the MSRP?

2012 Mazda5 GS w/convenience.  MSRP $25,535, paid $24,774 (3% over invoice), $50 for nitrogen and no other fees.  Probably the easiest deal I've ever done.  Sales person wrote down the prices with all the fees, I wrote my offer and we both agreed it was fair (I didn't low-ball) and they accepted it.  Probably could have saved more but I was not interested in staying at the dealer for a couple hours.  Deal was done in about 15 minutes.
