Anyone have seat covers?
« on: August 01, 2006, 08:05:17 pm »
I'm seriously thinking of putting seat covers on the Mini's driver/passenger seats.  Leatherette and summer heat does not go well together  :P.  I'm looking for something that keeps me from sticking to the seat.  I have looked at Wet Okeles http://wetokole.net/page/WOH/PROD/MINIC/minispecf and they look promising.  They also had cut-outs for the seat air bags.  On the expensive side, but if they work it will be worth it.
Any other recommendations?

If you can stomach the look, I don't think there's anything better than real sheepskin seat covers.

Toasty warm in the winter; refreshingly cool in the summer; tacky-looking all year round.  ;D

I have neoprene seat covers similar to the okeles.. i like them.. there's no sticking to them at all and fairly easy to clean.

I have seatcovers on my Saturn which came with it, They are a Nylon like material and seem to wear well and are cool in this heat versus the actual soft frabric. Cheapies probably bought at Crappy Tire but they do a decent job. Easy to install and wash when they are needed.  :)

I've had the dark sheepskin seatcovers from Costco for a few years now. Feels luxurious most of the year and have held up well, but hot in 30 degree plus weather.

I've been contemplating the neoprene seat covers, but I don't have leather seats so the cloth is managable.  Not entirely sure how well the neoprene keeps the bum cool vs. the regular cloth.

Hey!  They go with the shag carpet, disco ball and "If you see this van a'rockin'... don't come a'knockin'" bumper sticker!  You're such a snob, Craig.

I think you got that last letter wrong, GD.   :)

As for seat covers, days like yesterday made me REALLY hate black chihuahua skin.  I would consider some, but they would have to allow for side airbag deployment and not look tacky.

 :iagree:
I remember seeing something like this in a BMW catalogue, but better fit and finish.

I like the original interior of the Mini, not sure something like this is the way to go. I would rather bake or freeze than put a set of this in my car.  :)

I've never been a fan of seat covers, but the Mini's leatherette seats in hot weather are hard to take.
If I did order a front set of the Wet Okeles I'd order plain black (black piping), or black with dark grey inserts to match the colour of the door trim, dash and the car's exterior colour.  My only concern is that the neoprene won't stop that sticky feeling.

Well.. here's a pic of mine..or the same as mine, anyway.. and they're neoprene.

The only thing i can say about them is they seem to be a bit warmer than the cloth.. my back sweats a bit if i don't have the AC on.

You do not stick to neoprene at all...

My concern is the heat ability of the neoprene to quickly dissipate heat and ventilate my arse.  I hate having a sticky crack back.  ;)

But do keep in mind that neoprene can agitate the skin if it's sensitive... so make sure you drive with your pants on.  :)  My wetsuit has been irritating me lately.
