highway 407 etr billing problems?
« on: July 31, 2006, 06:51:04 pm »
How many of you 407 users have discrepancies with your bills, enough so that you no longer use the 407?

ex. overbilling, non-use billing (billed from car with similar plate), etc.

I have never had a problem other than the outrageous fees.  I always keep a credit of a buck or so just to annoy them.  ;D

I don't use them due to costs.  Compared to the tolls I paid in some States I visit, this is highway robbery.

We can all thank Mike Harris and his incredible Common Sense Revolution for the current 407 situation.  ::)

Granted it was a bad contract.   Not because of the tolls   but using the coercive power of the state to enforce a civil dispute ( paying of tolls) without the opportunity for going to court FIRST. The Lib  gov should have just abrogated that part of the contract.

Given all that they should extend the damn thing and get on with it... to Ottawa in the east and round via tobacco country to the US in the south....and then use the 407 technology to toll the Gardiner, DVP and core 401. Whatever one may say about the 407 company...they DO know how to run expressways.

The company I used to work for did the billing stuff I believe several years back and f**cked it up.  I use the 407 as a way to avod the 401 and I have had no billing probs for 4 years or so...before that..... not so good

The most annoying problem I have had is that it sometimes only picks up the transponder at one end of a trip.  It's happened 2-4 times.

I wind up with a .40 toll on the transponder with another bill to the car for the balance along with the non-transponder fee.

I then have to get on them to fix it.

I've never had a problem with the 407 and really find it to be quite convenient when I'm trying to avoid the 401, especially when I used to drive back and forth from London on weekends when I was away for school, saved me 30 minutes on the drive

Although the price is high and it does suck to pay to use a highway, it is a very well maintained road

I only ever drove on it once and had problems trying to pay the bill. It went from $2.35 to over $4.00 because of their computor glitchs on paying the bill. It wouldn't take the proper payment for a long time and finally they called me to ask why I hadn't paid it. They were nice on the phone and finally did get paid but due to their error I had to pay a lot more then I used. I won't be driving on it again as it is a joke the way it is run.  :)

 You are generous. I keep a $0.10 balance and keep tossing the subsequent payment reminders. After a few months they stop.

I had huge problems with them in the beginning.  I'd pay the bill and keep getting notices and late charges.  Took almost a YEAR to resolve.  Haven't had any issues over the last couple years and it saves me a ton of time everyday.  All highways should be toll IMO.

I'm sorry, but we get dinged enough with fuel taxes.

The 407 ETR is fackin' expensive. I never used it unless I'm driving a company or friends/family's car.
I happen to like the 401 anyway - the 407 is boring to me.

I've not had a problem (yet-knock on wood) with the 407 billing. I use the highway a lot. I like it. Compared to the drivers on the 401, the drivers on the 407 seem to be more courteous. Its very rare to find a left lane hog, drivers move over and let you pass, I've never been cut-off (the 407 is failry busy during rush hour) and drivers will let you into their lane when you signal. Also tailgaters are few and far between. It makes for a more relaxing commute which is well worth the money and unlike the 401 your always moving instead of moving and then idling for awhile.

The other plus is you see a lot of cars that I've never seen on the 401 or in the city (except at autoshows). I've seen quite a few Maybach's, VW Phaetons, Bentley GT's, Aston Martins, Maserati, Lotus, an old Lancia, the new Jaguar XK, various Rolls Royce models, a Morgan, various AMG spec'ed Mercedes, Lamborghini's and Ferrari's amongst others. It's kind of a moving auto show. Especially since most of those drivers are keeping to the speed limit(which lets you have a good look) to avoid unwanted OPP attention.

In the winter, I find the snow on the 407 is removed a lot quicker than the 401 and more throughly. Its also better sanded and salted. I believe the 407 snow clearing and salting crews on the roadway as soon as the snow begins to fall, instead of waiting for a requisite so many centimetres to fall and then going out.

Sir A   It has been suggested in the UK that going to road tolls everywhere, done in real time with satellite transponders in every vehicle would allow fuel taxes to drop very low.... I dont think that would work well or be cost effective.

For myself I'd rather pays tolls on all expressways and have them maintained to the 407 standard or even better, to the standard the same company manages in Spain on their autoroutes.

I've used the 407 since it was first opened as an alternative to trying to navigate the insanity that is the 400 S to 401 W mish-mash of lanes while visiting my father in Aurora.  The peace of mind I have that I don't have to try and shove over to the far left lane nearly instantly to avoid getting funneled right back off the 401W at that point is worth the expense.

Having said that, unless they plan on either a) Lowering fuel taxes or b) providing non toll highway options for those who cannot afford the fees, tolling any existing roadway is the equivalent of political suicide with an AK-47 >:(

Thanks to the government ever since the 407 was sold to a private corporation it became a highway robbery for the people who choose to use this freeway.

Well, with it being a Friday of a long weekend and my need to get from one end of the GTA to the other, I'll be taking the 407 this afternoon... then cursing a blue streak at the fact that I'm PAYING for the honour of being stuck in traffic.  If they're going to cause massive delays on the highway because of construction (ie. the current widening of the lanes) they should really offer a discount for those using this so-called superior service.

I only tolerate it because it is a slight lesser of two evils (the other of course being the 401 which is bound to be virtually stopped as of noon today until probably noon tomorrow).   Ugggh...
