A guy at work, in his mid-thirties (and bald!), just bought a brand new screaming yellow 2006 GT coupe. He put so far $12K US in mods and hearing his 'Stang rolling down the street is pure heaven. I already like the stock exhaust system but his sounds even more fabulous. He has a supercharger on order that will bring it to (allegedly) 450HP. He estimates his car being at 350HP and is having fun with 'Vettes...

He did tell me he got a ticket for not using his blinker since he got the car two weeks ago...  Grin

He's put $12K in mods and has gotten 50hp?  I hope he's quoting HP at the wheels....350hp isn't that impressive.

They are more reasons for doing mods than just for getting more HP. He modified the suspension (coil overs and sway bar), exhaust, shifter, seats, added extensive body kit, wheels/tires and brand new paint. And I know I am missing some... but he hasn't played with the engine yet.

And hey,  I never say that guy had all his sanity. But you may have a point with the 350HP being at the wheels because he was very serious when he said he "beating up" the new Vettes...

He obviously also changed (or added) the engine controller as he couldn't get 50 more HP just with an exhaust system.

New paint?   Huh

I don't understand people who buy new cars and immediatly repaint them.  Maybe it's just 'cause I can't afford to do it?

If I were to customize a Mustang, it would look something like this:

The stock exhaust on the GT is very good straight from the factory. Adding an axle-back or even a cat-back exhaust will NOT add more HP, it will increase the sound, which IMO is just fine as it comes. In order to achieve more HP in the exhaust system, you need to go to long tubes and probably shorty headers. A custom tune, CAI, and inceased air flow will do more than exhaust. Of course, a supercharger trumps all.

The mods game can quickly get out of hand, and you can spend a ton of money real fast. It's like getting "footitis" in the boating world. Mods may also void your factory warranty so some wait until after the warranty is gone before modding.

I intend no mods other maybe dropping it about 1" and maybe a new air intake down the road.

Demosthenes X, you're actually dead on! His car looks very similar to your picture and I believe is a Steeda production.

OVR50, I agree with you. I love the stock Mustang exhaust system. But I must say was extremely impressed with how this car sounds. The problem for this guy is the police force is also just as impressed as I am... Roll Eyes  I haven't logged on for a little while and didn't know you got a Mustang. Congratulations!

I ordered an '07 GT Vert but still have the option to bail out if things change. Won't be here until late Aug at earliest.

12K in Steeda gear?  It better have 350 at the wheels.  All show and no go makes for no fun.

In that case, more power to him.  I love the look of the 05 'Stang in yellow with the black accent...  very sexy.

Did you buy it under the current promotion or did you have access to the A plan anyway? (I've found one of your postings about the "Stang") Hope you don't mind me asking. Ford's website doesn't list the '07. We were thinking about getting one but I know my wife couldn't see anything from the passenger seat. 2007s are available with a 6-way passenger seat which could very well resolve that issue.

I ordered it under the current incentive plan. I am getting over $4800 off on a sticker of $42,454 including PDI, freight, etc. Only add on after is sales tax in a purchase. The Ford.ca website has only the 2006 pricing on it. The '07 price for a GT Vert is up $600 from the '06 price, with options up a little bit in each case.

Great, thanks! You did get an awesome deal. Considering there was zero incentive on the GT until the current incentive came out, you did very well.

Congratulations again.
