with such impressive reviews here, I was expecting it to be at least top 5. Cost aside.

That's a tall order even for the Z06 - except for the Atom, the top 5 are million dollar plus cars....

Again. Very, very impressive. Some notable cars this beats are:

Nissan GT-R (Mk II)
Maserati MC12
Pagani Zonda F Clubsport
Ferrari Enzo
Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0
Ferrari 458 Italia
Porsche Carrera GT
Porsche 997 GT2
Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera
Ferrari 430 Scuderia
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
McLaren Mercedes SLR

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/06/23/2012-chevrolet-corvette-z06-laps-the-ring-in-7-22-68-shaves-20/#continued

The Corvette ZR1 may be the bees' knees, but there's certainly a lot to be said about the mid-range Z06. For 2012, the Z06 gets a host of updates, and in order to prove the car's performance prowess, Corvette engineer Jim Mero took a brand new Z06 fitted with the Z07 chassis package to Germany's Nürburgring, only to find out that it's capable of ripping off a 7:22.68 lap time.

For those keeping track, that's 20 seconds faster than the last Z06 record lap (set in 2005), and only three seconds slower than the fastest ZR1 time. Color us impressed.

Do yourself a favor and click through the jump to watch Mero flogging the Z06 around the 'Ring. General Motors' official press blast is yours for the reading after the jump, as well.

Because it's about the Z06, and the updates from it's original run on the ring back then.

Why make a new thread just for that? Especially when putz' like you could care less and only gripe about bringing up a new thread.

Absolutely incredible. Just can't believe it is that much faster. There just is nothing better out there for the money, and maybe not even that, than a new Vette. And no stupid flappy paddles!!!

2012 GT-Rs 7:24 time was done in wet conditions.  Would love to see what a Z06 would do in the wet... Roll Eyes

Would still take the GT-R...because of the AWD, since with the Z07 package on the Vette, makes it nearly the same price as the GT-R.

The Z06 though, is THE used car performance buy.  I'm seeing C6 Z06 in the US for low to mid $30s these days.  There is NOTHING else that comes close (stock) for ~$30K that rivals this.  Bargain, bargain, bargain!

Absolutely incredible. Just can't believe it is that much faster.

I can....the Pilot Sport Cups are a DOT approved R-Compound race tire.  No shocker it kicks major ass!!

i can appreciate the performance you get from a corvette, but honestly, they do absolutely nothing for me...about the only ones i would actually buy would be the ones from the early 60s.

Good on ya for callin' it like it is V-man!  Besides, the interior and seat comment is likely getting a little too old even for them.

There's a goof-ball two doors down from me with a Z51 C6...drives it around the neighbourhood like an idiot...a Z06 Carbon would put him in his place eh boys!

i have a "goof ball" about 6 doors down from me who insists on racing his motorcycle down our crescent as he approaches his driveway...he seems to think that 1/4 mile of residential street is his personal racing strip...the next time i see him, i am going to tell him to cool it, because i don't want him killing himself on the side of my car when i back out of my driveway.

i have my M licence, and have had owned a variety of bikes over the years, sport bikes included...but driving like that on a "quiet residential street" is just asking for an accident...it also make the majority of respectful riders look bad.

One day last summer when he had the C6 parked on the street, I parked the Protege5 about 3" from his bumper.  He asked if I needed it moved to which I said "Oh no...I'm good!".

The best part has having my bride go out and move said Protege5 later...he's a real "man"...and you could see his brain was trying to process how a woman could get into an MT and be able to select reverse instead of 1st.  Haven't seen it parked on the street since!   Grin

no thanks...i know it is an accomplishment in terms of its performance abilities...but the car does nothing for me...i don't find it nice looking, i think the rear end looks like a big cheap wobbly plastic slab (if you actually touch it, which is also somewhat shared with the CTS-V Coupe) and i find it too obnoxious looking...don't get me wrong, i realize it is a performance bargain, and is a very capable car...it's just that i personally don't like the looks of them...now, if we were talking a 64 Vette, i'd take one of those in a heart beat.

I didn't like the C5 vette either, until I drove it.  Forgot about the horrible horrible interior and shitty details, I was giggling the entire time.

The Corvette I drove is still I think the highlight of my driving.  I haven't been in many high performance cars  Sad
