Clay bar
« on: July 14, 2006, 12:03:56 pm »
I have often used a pre wax, but never one with a clay bar. Is the clay bar that much better and does it take much longer to do?

Is it better?  It removes the imperfections and road grime off the car.  It does a fantastic job, and is worth it to do once a year.  Does it take a long time?  Not really.

It is very surprising what the clay bar will remove from your vehicle.  Claybar than wax and it will feel smooth like a baby's bottom.

I used a clay bar for the first time this Spring.  Worked great, and didn't take all that long to do.

I hate to add to the hilarity by adding the word "lube," but (t)...   :D

What liquid is used to keep the surface slick when using a clay bar?  Soap and water?  I've always wanted to try it on my car, but I've been too chicken for fear of messing up.   :-\

When you buy the clay bar package, it should come with some spray to keep the surface moist.

You can use the detail spray or soap and water, either works fine.  You really have to keep the surface very wet, so I rather use the soap and water, just keep a bucket close by.

After you do this any wax that was left after "Dawning" will be completely stripped so you better wax immediately.

Did a clay bar job on an Audi A4 last night, my first time seeing the clay bar in action. Used the quick detailing spray that came in the box but probably wouldn't next time if plain old soap and water would do the same job and be easier to clean up. Followed up right after with a wax.

The paint sure was smooth - plus the clay bar cleaned up all those little rust spots that cars tend to accumulate after the winter. I usually spend a fair bit of time in the spring scrubbing those rust spots off but not anymore - next year I'll be claying it.
