Not a bad looking vehicle, in terms of size is this competition to Freestyle and Pacifica?  Nice front end, and overall package.

The rear is a little Mitsu Outlanderish, but it looks decent. At least it gets the 6 speed automatic and not the 4 speed  ;)

The Torrent is the Pontiac version of the Equinox.   This is either the GMC version of the Saturn Outlook or Buick Enclave.

The only thing I find interesting about it is the recycling of the Acadia(n) name.

That was a POS if there ever was one.  The Chevette/Acadian were very interesting.  Had good funny memories of my cousin's black Chevette 2 door hatch.

The recycliing of names like this and Zephyr etc really have me questioning their marketing department.

"You want me to sell what?"
"How the hell am I supposed to sell SH*T to a farmer?"

Does GM Really need another vehicle to compete against the Equinox, Torrent, Vue and Grand Vitara?

It's not competing with any of those.  The Acadia/Outlook/Enclave are massive (200 inch+) crossovers that seat 8 people.  They're essentially full-sized SUV's that will start around low-30K range.

I'm hoping these do well. They have nearly all the ingredients for success for the right buyer.

They are big long crossover-SUV-thingies - the wheelbase looks huge in comparison with a Freestyle, but it's much better proportioned than the TrailBlazer EXT/Envoy XL. I'm hoping they seat occupants and provide more interior room than Tahoe/Suburban. Seems like every GM vehicle that comes out has an interior smaller than the vehicle it replaces, which is concerning. This vehicle could draw buyers out of Tahoes and Expeditions into this which would save them fuel.

Excellent powertrain/tranny combo. No one can complain about a 4-spd auto here, nor the powerplant which I expect to be as good as any out there.

The interior finally has some quality design baked in it appears. No longer cobbled together, even if it is deriviative of every other GM interior coming out.

It looks somewhat off-road ready and not completely prissy, yet with some luxury accents.

Looking forward to them, and hoping pricing is accessible to people (hoping mid $30's to start... low $30's would be dynamite).

My Bad.  Still.... They have 3 vehicles competing for the same market...

GM hasn't learned yet - it's got the Enclave and the Outlook - why badge engineer a third version?
