Ain't that good that they removed the top air vents?  ;)
Make sure you lock your car, or else your FAST will hop away!  :o

Either mileage is improving, or I'm learning how to drive the car smoother.

The GTI gets commendable mileage when going at a steady speed, but any acceleration or turbo usage really cuts into it. Drove to a wedding this week-end and with the cruise set at 122km/h (and with the A/C on for about 1/3 of the trip) I managed 685kms/tank. Not so bad (the display showed an average of 7.2L/100kms on the way down but reset itself for the drive back). I'm sure I could have bumped it over 700 easily by driving a few km/h slower, had I not encountered heavy traffic in Oakville, and not had the A/C on.

I'm not surprised at all, I get minimum 600/tank on my 1.8T, I think I broke the 700km/tank once.

That's pretty good mileage for a driver's car.

If I were to drive the Civic, I think I would get around 800-900km/tank.
If TDI, woooo, at least 1200km/tank.

Wow.

But the GTI is more a driver's car than the Civic huh?  ;)  I gotta try that thing one day.

Actually, my Civic consumes more gas than my Corolla did, and the difference is actually noticeable, which is surprising me.   I used to drive at least 2 weeks without the need to fill 'er up in the Corolla, now I can only get 1 week and a half max. with the Civic

Wait till after the break in period, might be increasing as you go.
How many km/tank?

km/tank: I'm embarrassed, I don't know how to get that number...  :o  Do I wait until she's totally empty, then fill her up and start the trip odometer and let it track the km until she's totally empty again? Or is there an easier way?

And do you know how long break-in periods normally run?

Thanks...

Best way Julie is to track L/km.  When you fill up, notice how many litres you put in...then see what the km reading is.

As for the Corolla being more fuel efficient....it's probably also due to driving style too....the Civic being more sporty in nature probably causes a bit of 'agressive' acceleration etc.  It's all good.   ;D

Well I've burned a 1/4 tank on my Mazda 3 so far....  According to the computer readout I'm expected to make 550km on my tank.  That's 55 litres and that's all city driving.  I would be pleased with that, especially before break in.  The computer is reading 9.1L/100km  and the car is rated at 9.2 city so I'm beating it which is awesome.

I'm going to do a little highway trip tonight we'll see how it goes, although I'll be carrying a little cargo.

Don't forget that the accuracy of the computer figure is subject to the assumptions made in the algorithms. Please report the MEASURED fuel consumption as well.  ;)

Hey Wing, do you know how to make that KM remaining display show something on the 3?  Mine always shows ---- and I've got no clue how to make it work.

Hey, if you give me the UML design for the damn thing then I can come up with a model that will predict its response time, utilization and throughput in a distributed environment.  ::)

That doesn't mean I can magically figure out the magical combination of dash buttons to push to get the trip computer to work. :rofl2:

So Wing, any ideas?

No, not at all. At least this one definitely doesn't.

However, I have combed through my owner's manual and although it says how to reset all the displays, it doesn't say anything about what to do if the KM remaining display shows nothing but ----.

My computer's average since 'birth' is displaying 9.6L/100K  :-\  It's gone down since I got it, and continues to albeit slower now than before when there were less km's on it (I'm at 2,200 now). We'll have to compare mileage as my tank is 55L too so makes for easier comparisons of kms / tank (I probably won't resort to calculating it out myself).

Dude, head to your Mazda dealer!!!!

The first batch of '06 Mazda 3's had a bug in the software that caused the reading to always be --- because they converted MPG to L/100km incorrectly.  Then there was a software patch.  Go to the dealer and they will flash your CPU and your good.

Mine worked right out of the box.

I read about this on www.mazda3forums.com

Thanks Mdx5. Yeah, I think I accelerate more now..... because it's so darn fun! hehe  ;D
