An unsolicited comment
« on: July 10, 2006, 05:13:31 pm »
Spent some time at the family cottage over the long weekend.  Took the opportunity to wash and wax the mother-in-law's 3-year-old Rav4 and brother-in-law's brand new CR-V.  Used Meguiar's Gold Class liquid wax and a 10" Simonize random-orbit Crappy Tire special to apply and remove most of the wax.

First, the 10" is really too big for most applications.  Wish I had gone with the 6" battery powered model.

The Meguiar's Gold Class comes out really nice.  A paint shop once complained to me that when he worked on my car, the wax was hard to remove to get to the paint, but I've got a new bottle left, and I'm not gonna buy Turtle Wax to keep him happy.

Anyway, apparently the mother-in-law was out shopping last week, and a stranger asked how old her car was, because "it's so shiny and new-looking".

The mother-in-law likes me again.

For now.

Good stuff.

Yes the 10" is too big, I find even 8" iffy.  5" is ideal especially for the smaller areas around mirrors and door handles.

I bought one from CT a few years ago and never used it after reading about people going right through the paint with it. Am I being paranoid? Is it easier to use than some people say?

Unless you leave it on one spot for way too long.  :)   Best is a manual hand job.  Your arms will be tired but it's worth it.  You'll feel when the wax is smooth.  You don't get that with a vibrating machine.

The Porter Cable Polishers are really a nice machine except for the price. I have a 9" Orbital polisher i use on my vehicles and a smaller one with a 6" head as well. As I am used to useing these I have No problem applying or removing the wax's or polishes i use on my show truck even. They do work great if you know not to stop in one place very long. The shape of the body panels also makes quite a difference to the useing of each design of machine as well. The 10" one can be way too big for some vehicles for sure.  :)

Don't tell me you played a round of golf as well?!
Cottages are for:
Swimming, drinking, bar-b-q-ing, drinking, water sports, drinking, fixing things, drinking, eating and more drinking.
In 25 years of cottage ownership I've never waxed the car. Good god man, get your priorities strait! :nono:

You must have really been in sssshitt with the Mother-In-Law.
