I found my A3's DSG shifts smoothly regardless of which mods I am using, no abrupt feel even at full "auto".

How about some postings in the Show and Shine section so we can all drool over some of the Euro machinery you've got in the driveway?

The GTI looks great in white but I still don'T like that black plastic "skirt" in the back.  I understand that it's more practical than painted body parts but still clashes with the light colors.  Maybe it's more discrete on black/grey models.  :P  Just a thought!

It's a very nice car but the 4-door would still be my personnal choice.  ;D

Is the GTI built in Europe or Mexico? One reason I didn't consider the 07 Rabbit or Jetta was do to the fact it was a mexican built car. Seems like the Mexican built stuff have questionable reliability issues.

I liked the seats on the new base Rabbit, but the  2.5L and Mexian production was a show stopper. I might have been able to overlook the poduction local, if it came with the 2.0L Turbo diesel at around 20k. But it doesn't, so I ended up with a 07 5dr Yaris which is as fuel efficient as a diesel engine and is more like the old Rabbit (in both weight and handling prowess) then the current heavy weight.

VW should have brought over the Polo and called it the 'Rabbit' which would have been more deserving of the cutesy name. But I do like the green bulletin adds.

The Rabbit is built in Germany.  The engine only is built in Mexico.

Saw one in dark grey yesterday, and it looked pretty good. The upgraded wheels attract more attention to the car I think though. Not a bad car at all.

4 door is due next year right?

A year of running with the new style and engine should let the bugs get worked otu and revela most of the issues.

I'm really hoping this car shows big improvents over past Vws in reliability. if it does a 30K 4 Dr hatch with this kind of performance and style would be very tempting to me. If they made a GTI WAGON I think I'd be hard pressed to turn it down

Agree that Rabbit should have been reserved for a Polo sized vehicle, not that we'll see it here for awhile.

I like the black lower valances/pieces. They won't stone chip and I think they make the car look less visually heavy. That said, I do like how painted pieces WITH the ground effects kit looks on the new Rabbit/GTI, unlike on some other VW/Audi models (the previous gen A4 and Jetta IV's except the GLI).

There are some niggles in the article, mostly becuase some content mentioned is US-spec:
- I found DSG smooth all-around. Don't have any qwibbles with it in the time I used it
- Don't know how he received a GTI with the 'Passenger Airbag OFF' sensor, but Canadian cars don't have it (was long ago removed from Jetta V too)
- Can't quite 'flip the centre armrest out of the way' but you can slide it back mostly out of the way. Doesn't bother me
- Published late, this article did not take into account running changes announced on the car, which I suppose are not major but might be noteworthy

I'm happy he noted how large the GTI feels inside. It's a big part of the reason for buying one versus the competition.

The GTI 5drs are arriving anytime now, and since the Golf V was out in 2003 the worst issues SHOULD be worked out by now. Let's hope. They're contemplating Jetta Wagon GLI, so that'd come close to this with more room. That'll be really neat if it comes to fruition.

I've wanted to see Audi Tom's fleet for awhile now. How 'bout it?

A nice piece to be sure. The GTI is more than competitive compared to the cramped boy racer style Civic coupe. I just hope VW gets their quality sh*t together as I know many last gen VW owners who would never step foot in a VW showroom having had to deal with problem after problem with the Jetta's and Golf's...

Yaris vs Rabbit is a wrong comparison to start with.
The Rabiit competes with the Matrix.

The Golf City which will come by the end of this year is going to be a Yaris competetior.

Even since the introduction of Mk5 Jetta last year, I haven't heard of any negative comments regarding its quality and reliability. But I have heard some complaints on poor fuel economy of 2.5 I-5 getting avg 14L/100km. :banghead:

Yeah, I don't think city driving is its forté. Not bad on the highway tho I don't think.

That's like 400km to the 55L tank? Seems low to me.

I get at leat 650km on my 1.8T.
2.0T all the way!  ;D

I know the 2.0L FSI would do very well, but it uses premium fuel, so no good for North America.
