Anybody try that RainX bug protectant spray?
« on: June 30, 2006, 08:28:35 am »
Seems like a good idea if it works....I think I'll buy a can before my next big car trip. You spray it on, and bugs don't stick to the paint, and you just wash it off. I wonder if you have to spray a lot before it's effective. It's kind of expensive at $9 for a can.

Do not know about bug protectant but the RainX windshield stuff really works. I have used it for 3 seasons and it improves visibility and wiper performance. You can literally drive on highway in rain and not even turn wipers on. Sounds crazy but it is true.

Surprisingly the application lasts quite a long time. I can still the effects months later.

I'm going to give it a try. Might be doing a day trip in a couple of days and will give it a try. I'm a sucker for new interesting car care products.

It's one of the reason I used Rain-X washerfluid in the past.  After a few days of use, you just have to go 70-80 km/h and the rain just glides on the window.  Great product!

My first test ended up being only half successful. It ended up raining hard and the RainX stuff on the front mostly washed away before the evening long drive home from the US. They stuff does seem to help, the bugs did seem to come off easier with just spraying and less wiping.

I keep a wet bug sponge in my hatch sealed in a heavy duty Ziploc baggie. I have been known to clean the bugs off the front of my car once or twice a day. I may give this stuff a try to help me with my….problem.

I went down to Crappy Tire to purchase the Rain X bug spray and they didn't know what I was talking about.
I guess it takes time to get to the Wet coast. :P

Compared to Northern Ontario (all of Ontario really), the West Coast doesn't HAVE any bugs to worry about.  ;)

They also have a bug & tar pre-wash gel that I would like to try but canadian tire doesn't carry it either on the east coast.

I find the Meguirs Product called Final Finnish does a great job of removing the bug remains off of the front of my truck even the glass after I spray it as well. i think on glass it works better then the Rain-X. One of their sales reps told me to try and i did, very impressive results i will say. I buy the Final Finnish by the Gal sized jugs now as its the best show and shine wax i have ever used at a carshow.  :)

I'm worried about using a product like this because I have heard that it creates a film on your window that at night makes it glarey to see through. Has anyone really used the Rain-X brand of products for many years and can honestly say (being very finicky with car detailing) that it doesn't creat a film on the windshield...almost like wax does when you go through those nasty drive through car washes???

Had more problems with the "Teflon Wiper Fluid" stuff personally..''spotty vision damn near invisble vision in heavy Snow and sleet ON the windsceen Yes I KNOW it was SNOWING & SLEETING at the same time!!!)....the Rain_ex applied in the Fall with the "candle_like" wax thingie is OK fer about a week to 10 daze..GLAZE......I think (does anyone KNOW??) they deteriorate BADLY in Sub Zero conditions.(AFTER ALL THEY SAY APPLY ON A MILD DAY!!! 15C PLUS???).keep a decent blade on the wipers....a good -45C fluid ($2.19 stuff) inna washbottle and clean yer Gl;ass with Vinegar and Newspaper on the "fine" winter days....IMHO....
