Not quite, there is a review board.  A lot jockey supervisor as you stated would not exactly count or carry much weight.  b. Two references from supervisors or colleagues or existing AJAC members. implies more a supervisor at a publication.  You may be the only 'automotive commentator' at a local newspaper so there would obviously be no AJAC members working there, but your editor of the paper could vouch for you.

I think the goal is to ensure anyone seriously involved in the industry can get in, but those who are just doing it on a whim cannot.  Like I said before, it used to be a lot harder to be accepted but they want to increase membership right now.
OK, thanks. So say I write an article or two for BDFD (as I've noticed other 'budding' journalists have, not saying I would either) then I would need two AJAC members to vouch for me (like James or yourself (?)) and 'then' I can get the Porsche for a weekend? Grin
Why does AJAC want it's members to rise, other than the obvious increased revenues.

I take it then that AJAC membership isn't necessarily indicative of being a fulltime professional auto journalis?

Certainly not from where I am standing. For the most part I'm sure it dosen't pay very much, you just get to drive someone else's cars and put mileage on them instead of your own or maybe even not need to have a car in the first place. I'm sure (for most) it's a stepping stone to something else 'like' a full time auto journalist for a 'major' publication or 'the holy grail' your own Automotive TV show!
Sounds like a good gig for a retired person. Hey Francis, you should get in on this!

There are very few full-time auto journalists period in Canada.  It would be a small organization.  Grin

More or less, but they would need to be 'accepted'.  Where you write for and how much traffic that site/paper/magazine generates is also a factor.  How much?  I do not know.
