Bought a 2005 Ford Five Hundred SEL
« on: June 05, 2006, 10:36:34 pm »
Some of you might be shocked by this but we finally bought a car. As you can see from the title it's a 2005 Ford Five Hundred SEL (FWD), with 15,000km on the clock.

Originally I wanted something more efficient and earlier test drives of this make and model weren't too impressive. My daughter was born May 4th and the thought of her sitting in the back seat put the idea into my head of something a bit bigger with better safety ratings.

I took this car for a 30 minute test drive ON MY OWN, which makes all the difference to me as I can fully concentrate on the car. I discovered that the transmission and engine suited my driving style quite well around the city - i.e. slow like an old codger!

I managed to get the car for $25,500 on the road, which doesn't seem too bad. I picked the car up today and I've only driven it home from the dealer since then, but I'm very happy. I find the drive around the city to be very relaxed - I don't need loads of revs and the 6 speed auto happily pulls me around in the speed limit with good fuel economy.

Somehow I think the stroller will fit in the car! Anyway here are some pictures:

I forgot to rotate the one of the centre console. I always thought the car looked sharp but I like it even more now in the flesh and up close and personal!

 :rofl2:

Nice looking car. Glad you finally found a vehicle that you're happy with. Does it have the CVT?

No it's the FWD + 6 speed auto. I updated my post accordingly.

Probably a safe bet to opt for the 6 speed.

In any event, Congrats! Enjoy the new ride!

Congrats Stodge.  The 500 is IMO, Ford,s N.A. best built car. Good choice!!
Thanks for the pics, but  how about some of that cavernous trunk.

Congrats.

Have you Scotchgard the rear seats and carpet?  Make food spills easier to wipe up.  :)

Congratulations. Nice car. The Ford Five Hundred doesn't deserve all the bad press it is getting. Granted the style is very conservative and it is not the most performant sedan out there, but it does what it was designed for very well.

It's funny eh - the press says conserative, but I say sharp and simple, the way a good design should be. The only negative to the design is the front end doesn't quite look right. My only complaint so far is that the side of the front seats are a little soft (maybe the front seats are a little soft in general) but it's comfortable. I like sitting higher up - I was overtaken by a large pickup today and I didn't feel as threatened as I do in the Taurus. I didn't take pictures of the trunk as there are plenty on the web. :)

I like the Five Hundred a lot, as I've posted before, as I think it has all the ingredients a true large family sedan should have including lots of interior and trunk room and a smooth ride, and I think it looks very handsome if not groundbreaking.

I thought the SEL's had the chromed grille opening?

Good luck with the car and congrats on settling on something.  :D
