I was thinking of the M640, because it was the first to get 4000 hp from a single engine. The U50 and DD40 had two diesels in them.
But not what you would call a successful venture, with only one made.
Needed GM and GE to come out with reliable and effective wheel slip control systems before high hp could be used on a regular basis, as well as the fuel economy side of high hp.
