Car dies down when wheels turned to the max...
« on: May 12, 2006, 04:54:00 am »
The engine in my 2004 Sebring dies 80% of the times when the wheels are turned to the max left/right.

This also happens when there's heavy stop and go traffics. Sometimes there's also some lurking during a slowdown(braking) in stop & go traffic.

I had the dealer checked few times but they couldn't find anything wrong.   ??? ???

Anyone know what causes these?

Try a different dealer. When the wheels turn there is a load from the power steering and that can take away rpms and cause stalling. On board computers though should compensate and no problem. Did they look for fault codes?

I agree with Inco on this as turning to the max will cause a lot of pressure to be put on the Power steering pump which can cause this problem to some degree. Most vehicles will react this way. If it stalls at other times other then this then i would have the low idle adjusted slightly higher.  :)

I would be surprised if the idle can be adjusted on a 2004 engine.

accr, how many Kms on your car? There are several possible root causes for your concern which would likely not set a code in the engine computer. The IAC (idle air control which is a bypass air valve -I'm assuming Chrylser still use them in 2004-) could be at fault since if defective, the engine will not be able to react to a load increase at idle which happens in all the scenarios you are describing. A lean condition could also be the issue (low fuel pressure, dirty injectors, vacuum leak). Just my 2 cents...

My understanding is that these engines can be adjusted slightly thru the computors on this and many other models. Yes of course if there is a slight problem going on as you have suggested Benhaze then Those will be the areas to look at 1st.  :)
