steering is harder to turn on one side... ??
« on: May 10, 2006, 01:25:32 pm »
My steering is harder to turn to the right than to the left.
It need more force to turn and keep the turning when I go to the right. It come back in neutral position with a lot of force also.

-Tires pressure is ok in all tires.
-The car goes in straight line on the road.
-Steering is straight center.

My car is a 2005 Accent.

What should I check before going to the dealer ?
Why could it be ?

Thanks

Is it power steering?  Other than checking fluid level I think it's too hard to say without lifting the car up and looking at the steering and suspension components first hand.

This car will still have full warranty yes?

Could your alignment be out?  It shouldn't be, if the car is still driving straight, but this is the only thing that comes to mind...

Have you acidently hit a large pot hole or solid object which could bend a tie rod shaft or something like that, Normaly it would be felt in the steering wheel but occasionly it dosen't show up rught away other then give you the same type of problem you describe. I would also have your right front Brake calipur checked to make sure its not dragging as it will also give you the same effect.  :)

Hey folks,

I have a similar problem to the original poster, but I didn't want to be redundant and put it in a separate thread, so here it is:

I find that when making sharp left turns (i.e. in the GTA, think Rexdale onto Highway 27) when moving at a decent speed (i.e. not super-slow) my wheel seems to get almost "stuck" pointed left, and I have to use plenty of my own force to bring it back to center. I don't seem to have this issue doing right turns.

Tire pressure equal on all tires, brakes were recently services, car goes straight just fine when dead center, etc.

Sometimes I feel that the wheel in general requires a fair amount of force to bring it back to center, it doesn't "bounce back" like on some other cars. Anything I can check on the car by myself without taking it all the way back to the dealer?

The tread on the front tire on that side to begin with. Just in case its a tie rod end or ball joint starting to go bad. Anythoing like that will throw the alignment out and start to show wear on the tire on that side. If its a sticking calipur look for excessive wear on the brake pads on that side as well.  :)

I would take to a garage/shop to check it. Don't think it is tires & alignment related. Have to be part of the steering system is not functioning correctly. The power pump, wore out steering belt, steering gears need lubrication ... The problem does sound mechanically wrong somewhere.
