Rush hour stop and go urban ommuting is where the hybrid makes sense.

My fuel guage is typically about where yours is with that amount of kilometerage on the tripometer, but obviously less when stuck in traffic.

My current usage of my car reflect my real situation all year around.  Even if a lot of people think that driving an hybrid car in heavy traffic is where it's as it's best.  I agree that's true with the Toyota technology because it can start from a complete stop without the gaz engine running.  But with the Honda technology, the gaz engine always run when starting from a complete stop.  It shut down only when crusing at various speed and when the car is not moving .  So actually when I'm  not in a stop and go situation, it's where  I get the best fuel efficiency.  That's why the EPA number for the Civic are better on highway driving than on city driving while for the Prius it's the opposite.  Two different technologies but both with it's + and -.  I expect to do better this summer when the rush hour will be with less traffic.

P.S. My tank size is 47L, what's yours?

I would seriously consider the Civic Hybrid for my commute if only those rear seats folded!

My tank is 55L and it's true what you say about mileage city vs highway with the Honda IMA. The Civic is a flat-out nice car with or without the hybrid.

Prius, that's the first I'm I've ever seen actually pricing. Interesting.
Battery for a 2005 Prius: MSRP $2,985, "Your Price" $2,149 thru OEM Parts Shipping Cart on that site

Of course, that's the battery alone, not the installation labour or any other components. Still, that's the most expensive part and it's less than I thought it would be.

I'm actually surprised at soleil's numbers. Heck, the new HCH can give the Prius a run for its money esp. since it's $5,000 less if people can bypass no folding rear seats.

Prius, go to greenhybrid.com.  You'll be able to get the same kind of information for the Prius and all other existing hybrid car.  Plus, it a great source of information on the hybrid technology.

The Honda Civic Hybrid 2006 is on it's way to equal, may be beat, the Prius in the matter of fuel efficiency.

nice 923 km a tank in the city, i yet have to reach the 900 mark but i've gone past 850 for the city!

my civic drives like yours too, just i shut it off earlier ;)
