NOTE: JUNE 8 UPDATE ON PAGE 2

Note the different-than-what-you-usually-see wheels. The alloys on most of the new Jettas on the street are common, because its both the upscale 16" wheels with the luxury package on the 2.5 and TDI, and the stock wheel on the base Jetta 2.0T. These are the 17" that come with the luxury package on the 2.0T.

The car is amazing, way better than my 2003 1.8T.

Nice wheels!

It sure sounds like a really nice car, if only I found it as good-looking outside as it seems to drive and look inside.

I'll correct your gramatical error, by adding...... if only I thought it looked... To me, after an initial getting used to period for the front end, I find it looks far superior to other cars of this size, making some of them look truly "old", even ones that have been redesigned over the past 4 years.

However its all subjective, which is why there is more than one type of car sold, and why the need to fix your post.

Thanks for the correction.  I fixed my original post.  Wink

For all it's worth, I don't mind the front all that much, it's the rear that bothers me...

Doug, let us know how that chrome on the front holds up after a few winters  Wink

Seriously though, nice wheels and nice car.   Silver is so sweet.

Yeah, that thought/potential problem had crossed my mind, not so much from winters but stone chips. Mind you, stone chips aren't good looking on painted metal either.

Dorin, I hear you about the rear. Much prefer my old 1.8T, and lots of other cars too. Now the clean side (Audiish) view is one I really like!

Straight side angle is the worst for me. It looks too high (wheel gap) and a little generic. I like the dead on front - very perky, and rear 3/4 (your second shot) as the rear pillar is very luxury-like cut to it, and I like the rear because I find the roof line and rear window look tight and I actually like the rear lights and high deck lid.

What I really like about Jetta is it's size. Sure, it's bigger than it was, but somehow still comes across as smaller and more nimble than most other cars at this price range. That's why I think G6 would be it's closest competitor if perceived value of the interior were higher.

It's size is a strength in Canada, but is probably it's weakness in the US. Still, it's a place and card few other cars play.

Nice!  You're right, the less-common wheels do look sharp.  Thanks for sharing!

What the heck, no Xenons with washers?
It's just $750+tax!

I think the Xenons make the Jetta look much more aggressive.
You can get the silver tinted rear lights too, if you add those, no one would say it looks like a Corolla!

Well, a response that has no value, except to prove 'to each, his own'...

He he, don't get me started! $ 750- + tax for some flashlights encased in a clear cover area? I know talking against a fad is like p....g into the wind, but HELLO, where did this fad come from? I think they make the car look like crap. Looks like a copy of the ricer rear lights approach taken on the Altima, which in turn is something born out of a combination aluminum foil plant and a wrecking yard where the parts have been severely over sun bleached (read, appearing to be used from birth).

I'd begin paragraph 2 here but might start getting repetitive eventually, so I'll stop.  Grin ROFL  On the positive side, those rear lights lost a sale for Nissan as I was unable to get over the Altima rear 'look'. (A V6 manual was on top of my buying list 3 years ago because it was so quick) Instead I bought a Jetta, and now another one Smiley

I'll pretend I didn't read that Doug and type up another reply for you:

"I don't drive the car that much and mostly stay within the city streets, which are well lit anyway. Didn't feel the money would be well-spent, and gosh, I just love the detailing of that VW logo in the headlight."  Grin

For me, it's gotta be the HIDs. First, they emit far FAR more light. I would feel greater security in all the night time driving I do here, there, and everywhere. Secondly, being projector beams, the light is very focused and evenly distributed. Thirdly, the darkened housings do look more aggressive to me too.

I'll also take the LED tail lamps, for the quicker light response, brighter intensity, and life of the technology.

Thanks for the re-write  Grin  However, I don't recall it getting darker out there since I began driving with normal headlights many moons ago.

Simply put, it set me off on my pet peeve.  Roll Eyes I just don't like silver lights, in fact I hate them equally to garbage can sized mufflers and massive wings on the back of automatic Civics. if you get my drift. And I'm hardly alone. However I don't like the Corolla rear end either.  Undecided

If I had a Jetta I'd be shopping for the Euro Jetta LED tail lamps. Just a touch different Smiley
