OMG  :o

This guy's new C6 Z06 had his roof panel fly right off on the highway.

Actually Bob if you read through the thread you'll find this tidbit:

"GM sent me a letter in the mail (as well as thousands of other c6 owners) for a recall on their roofs delaminating and ripping off the car"

Highlight of the thread:  "now you know why they cost half the price of a porsche"

Lowlight of the thread (posted by the owner of the Z06 whose roof blew off):  "I hope they at least give me a free rental car while they fix it, but I've heard they might not give rentals to drivers under 25?"

He's UNDER 25 YEARS OLD and driving a $90,000, 500 hp car?!!!

Can't say as I see the issue of the drivers age, unless he was doing something stupid that led to the roof ejecting itself (I never knew GM was into making cars for the James Bond films ;))

If he has the means, let him drive a Hummer for crying out loud, long as he does so safely, there's no issue.

He obviously had that car wound up and was putting a lot of stress on the body to do that. His RPM says it all with how he was driving it at the time. If there has been a recall then the General is aware and will be on top of it right away. Remember when the T-roofs used to spit out on all makes and models when the body was twisted. I do as I have seen enough of the panels laying on the road over the years. This lad needs to slow down while he still has a drivers licence or his life even.  :)

My comment about his age didn't really have anything to do with the roof coming off.  Rather, I was just pained by the fact that he has somehow acquired such a hot machine at such a young age.  And... it's reasonable to generalize that younger people given that kind of a powerful machine are more likely than not to get themselves into some trouble.  For his sake, I hope he has earned the car with his own sweat, tears and moolah and respects what a death-machine it could be if not handled with care.

 You certainly have a valid point based on statstical evidence that as young as the driver is he has a higher chance of becoming involved in a collision.  But whether he acquired it becausehe wrote the next Windows Operating System or his parents bought it for him is really not for us to critique.  Besides any car in the hands of any driver is a death machine if handled improperly, from a 16 year old in a Ford Mustang to an 80 year old in a Buick Lucerne (or vice versa)

That's certainly true.  It can become a disasterous weapon for anyone not using a car sensibly... however, a Z06 is just asking for a bit of 'show-off-manship' and is a car that demands more respect than the average.  You're right though, his means in acquiring the car have nothing to do with the roof falling apart.  I was simply making an observation out of envy.  ;)

In any inexperienced driver's hand....a 500hp Z06 can go wrong really quick if one has the inability to control oneself.  A Z06 begs to be driven hard, it taunts you and always asks the driver "Is that all you got little man?".....that's where sh*t happens....when you answer it.

Barrie surely that car should be able to handle the power without twisting the chassis?

It depends on the frame design Bob as some of the older muscle cars with HP like that were famous for doing just that. They would twist the frame enough to spit the back window out or the glass T-Roofs right out of the roof. Mostly the big blocks of years ago but remember we are back up to these high HP No's again with the same amount of torque being produced as well. The wrong road conditions on a major launch and say goodbye to something or other.  :)
