My 2003 Volvo S40
« on: April 16, 2006, 09:37:14 pm »
Here are pictures of my 2003 Volvo S40 with sport package.. since I got it I've done some light mods on it....

- 35% tint all around
- XenonDepot Xtreme HID kit (6000k)
- DIY headlight switch (so my HID don't turn on with the car everytime)
- Lowered with Eibach Pro-Kit (modest 1 inch drop)
- 17x7.5 BBS RX with 215-45-17 Falken Ziex ZE512 tires
- Stock foglight with 3000k Nokya bulbs (very yellow indeed!)

Enjoy!  ;D

Very cool Volvo. I love that style for the wheels, makes it looks really sporty and agressive. Let's hope you don't drive around with the fog lights on all the time  :-X ;)

Have you had any problems with it? I've been eyeing that year S40, they can be had a decent prices.

My car was also chipped with Upsolute.. it now has 203 hp and 229 lb-ft torque  ;D not too bad for a small car like this..!

My Volvo went back to the dealership twice for the same problem (they said), the O2 sensor. Also.. the fuel gauge did not show full when I filled the tank... I forgot what exactly the problem was but according to the dealer, the whole fuel pump assembly was replaced. (under warranty, or else it's a $600 job)

Other than these 2 issues, I don't really have any problems with it... the tranny is smooth and the engine is peppy, even in stock form. Fuel consumption is around 9.5L/km in mixed driving... Interior is on the small side, just like its intended competition (Audi A4 of its time).

If you are looking into this series of Volvo, I suggest you take a good look at the V40 wagon. Sometimes I regret not getting the wagon.. one of the nicest looking Volvo wagon around (in fact, one of the nicest wagon design around, period).

Also, from the 2003 model year, they had a different dashboard, with 2 large gauges, speedo and tach together, with coolant temp and fuel gauge to the left and right, respectively (like its larger S60 and S80 sibilings). Also the steering wheel went from 4 spoke to 3 spoke, the front grille went from the traditional chrome waterfall grille to the black grille. The trunk release button on the trunk door went from black to chrome. Small touches I know, but since you are looking at a car like this, I might as well give you some additonal info.  ;D

Bullet Blue: I usually turn on the fog lights when there's heavy rain or fog (duh!)... and also when the sun goes down, but I don't feel the need for my full headlights yet.. I'd turn it on (see the second picture) to supplement the corner turn signals as the DRL. Other than that.. it's off most of the time.

Nice!  The BBS wheels are a perfect (and expensive) fit for your S40.  Thanks for sharing!

Actually my setup of rims + tires wasn't that expensive, $1500 tax in... due to the fact that the BBS's were used. Very lucky to have a buddy of mine looking out for me for these rims (found it in a local second hand parts shop), as the bolt pattern for my car aint that common anymore (more popular cars with this bolt pattern now is the 94-02 Honda Accord 4 cyl.). Lucky me.  ;D

Thanks! But believe me, I already knew all that. I'm a slight Volvo freak myself  :)

Nice to find another Volvo freak on here  ;D
I'm having a hard time to convince my buddies that this car is a legit head-to-head competitors with their A4's and Jettas  :banghead: :banghead:

I've always think that if this car was priced $3000-5000 bucks lower, it would become a legit contender in the premium compact car segment.. that segment is currently dominated by cars like the Acura CSX (Civic??) and the VW Jetta...

but then, more young dudes might get their hand onto the Volvo and start to do crazy things with it, ie. big aluminum wings and stupid 2 Fast 2 Stupid graphics... it won't look pretty then won't it?  :rofl2:

I agree that most tunerz are obscene but with the right mods and a little good taste ... you can get some awesome results.  :lick: :lick: :lick:

G0DSpd: now that's what I call a tasteful mod  ;D

Bullet Blue: I have yet to see a Volvo in my life (real life) that's like that, and I am not too sure if I want to see it  :rofl2:

To all honesty, my car will prolly never match the A4 or even the Jetta in terms of driving dynamics.. however we can only work with what we have.. and I personally don't think I've done too bad of a job with it... at least I won't run into like 5 cars in the lot w/ the same body kit or the same rims or same type of mods  ;)

davidm: If I can go back in time, I might've actually picked up a V40 instead of a S40. I think all my mods going into a wagon would just be a cool idea  :rofl2:

However.. I just took my car into the dealership today again, due to the fact that the fuel gauge was not showing full when I filled the tank (again!!)..! apparently the dealer said some wiring was loose on the fuel level sensor and they just tighten them.. now it's all good.

Another problem on this trip to the dealer was the driver's side front window.. making a weird noise after I close the window.. sounds like the motor kept running but was forcfully stopped by the door/window frame. Turns out the window regulator had to be replaced. The part will take 1 week to come in =(

Volvo Villa in Thornhill (North GTA) was really helpful in servicing my vehicle.. however I just don't like the idea of these problems popping up after like 60000 km... anyways it's a warranty fix, and I know after the car comes back out, I'll be a happy man once again  ;D
