"King of Cars"
« on: April 13, 2006, 08:55:47 am »
Anyone see this reality show?  Crazy!!  NO ONE cares about the price of the car, only the payment.  I bet 99% of people have 96 month loans and have paid 110% of MSRP.  Wow, what a business...
No place I'd rather be...

reminds me of that topic about being car poor. I can't belive people were arguing about how much they should be paying per month and not as a TOTAL. Geez
Why do they put Braille on the drive-through bank machines?

It's on A&E.

And I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it because from the commercials, it looked stupid. I'll check it out sometime and reserve final judgement for then.

I've managed to sit through three or four minutes, but it turns me off.  Everything about the dealership is unappealing to me.  The style of people, the way they behave....I can't imagine ever dealing with an operation like that.

The only time "cost per month" has entered into my calculations has been when I've tried to figure out if I can do 36 months rather than 48, or the like. I would NEVER consider going past 4 years, and I only shop for cars that fit well within my budget. Of course I also have never leased and am certain I never will either.  :P

I hear ya, AVT.  My wife and I have resolved ourselves to keeping the Civic rather than selling it and getting something else.  I've left the 'deal making' to the missus this time 'round (with a supervisory eye on the process).  She was thrilled to come back with a monthly payment that was $50/mo or so less than her lease had been previously.  Astonished I asked for more details and found out it was for 60 months!!!  She hadn't even considered the long-term, overall costs and was simply fixated on paying less per month.  We quickly re-arranged things and looked at the shorter term to get the damn thing paid off quicker.

ya, did you notice that everyone seems to want $300 a month lol  in addition, there was some guy who bought a charger and basically said, take care of my jetta, I'll give you $8000 and I can't be more than $450, it came in at $470 or so but no term, no rate, nothing was mentioned...he waited, bought and left with his car.  All vehicles are spot deliveries.  You come in, buy, leave with the car, the paperwork comes in the mail as long as you provide all the required documents when you make the deal. The chopper show/chopper edtions are nice ideas but the stupid outfits, the silly gimics, REDICULOUS suits, guys hanging out front of the dealership like vultures, NONE of that would work here.  That dealership sells about 7000/new a year and in terms of revenue, it is a $400,000,000 or so business when all departments are considered..one dealership!  There's a dealership in LA, Longo Toyota that is going to exceed 1,000,000,000 in sales this year...mental.  Believe or not, I'm sure the CSI at that store is probably very high, it seems like a fun place to buy a car but it really makes it pretty clear why American's are so saddled with debt...$30,000 purchases are treated like a trip to Dairy Queen...

I've met the owner of Longo briefly when I worked at Lexus.

He was treated well when he was visiting Canada. Hadn't heard of him at the time, but their importance was evident.

I watched part of an episode the other night.  The one salesman was dressed as a purple genie.   :P

I would probably walk into that dealership, and walk right out.

I would never buy anything from such an individual.  I'd expect him to sell me some watches from his inside pocket or something.
