replacing YOKO AVS ES 100's with ..... ?
« on: April 10, 2006, 06:53:10 pm »
hey crew

i've had 225/45/17 AVS es 100's on my WRX for 2.5 summers.  i cant say enough about these tires.  they worked tremendously well.  Infact, they were ordered from Tire trends.   My only flaw with the tire, is that it is generaly a heavier tire.  Can anyone suggest an suitable replacment with the same features/speed rating that sint so heavy?  make no mistake, i  have no problems re-ordering these again.  But just wanted some other options.

NOTE: tires will be used for a few track days, as well as the open tarmac twisties i find around my house.   Please do not suggest an all season tire.

If you were happy scared to suggest anything else. The tire is quite heavy, but as a result is very stiff. This might be something you dont want to loose...

How about GS-D3? They are often named as the best overall max performance tire. I am quite happy with PS2 - they are quite, light, sticky, and responsive (a bit pricey, however).

GS-D3 has gotten great reviews and is a popular tire with us. Not quite as stiff as the ES100, but offers a better all around package. The reason this tire wins so many of the tire tests is because it does very well in all catagories. Maybe not the best in each catagory, but near the top. PS2 seems to be getting popular as well.

I've heard that the Toyo T1R's and the Kumho MX's are pretty light....

They are lighter, but as a result sidewall is not as stiff. There are tradeoffs with everything.

My brother just put on a set of Kuhmo SPT's on his WRX and he's very happy.  No track days on them yet so can't say how they are being lapped.
Internal combustion thrust I trust

Falken RT615?  I have never heard anything bad about these - good price too.
