I am screwed now. The new car bug has bitten..Volvo V70R.
« on: April 10, 2006, 12:22:09 pm »
I drop by the local Volvo dealer to pick up a couple of parts the P1800 when I decide to walk through the new car lot. Lo and behold I spy a 2006 V70R 6 speed manual. A few minutes later I am going for a drive, nice. I get out of the car and my knees feel weak and I have a knot in my stomach. I know I am buying this model.  It is so intoxicating that it makes me gloss over the $65k price. I haven't pulled the trigger yet (waitng on the financial crystal ball to clear up) but my finger is ITCHY. :)

How anyone can buy a X/C90 V8 for $72k or even a X/C70 for $55k when this thing is lurking on the same lot?

I am going for Metallic black with the Atacama (orange?) interior, I will call it the Pumpkin.. A heavy tint on the windows and away we go.  This R seemed to drive much better than the 2005 I sampled about a year ago. The ride was much more supple over rough stuff. Volvo claims a 5.9 0-60, not bad for a wagon.

My WRX Wagon in OEM trim has sub 6 second 0-60 as well.

I take it the Toe-rag is out now?  ;D

Damn I am unbelievably jealous right now. I agree about the pricing. The XC70 and new C70 is $55K and that is without options. If you option it up it's in the $60K range easy. The V8 XC90 for $72 is pretty pricey as well. 300 horses with AWD 6 speed manual is the easy choice. Did you try out the different suspension modes? I had a V70 R for the day about 2 years ago for my birthday and I was blown away. I showed a Mustang who wanted to race who was the boss  ;D . It's one of the coolest wagons out there IMO. There is a grey one (6 spd) at the local superstore parking lot all the time.

Good stuff! :fiver:

I agree.  The black on orange combo looks hot.  The colour takes some getting used to but once you see it a few times, the leather looks fantastic.

Toe-rag is done like dinner. I am going to keep my truck for the dirty work and replace our existing Passat wagon. The suspension settings were great in the R. The ride was civilized even on sport mode, prssing comfort just added more jounce and made it feel like my Passat. The hard setting was very buttoned down and not something I would use very often. I am sure Volvo played with the suspension settings over the past year. It could be the tires too.

BTW If anyone is interested in low KM Passat wagon...

If I had $65k for a Wagon in my budget a V70R would be parked in my garage…go for it!  :bounce:

I'd squeeze a little bit more for a 70k S4 Avant wagon.  :) the V70R is haute but the S4 Avant is the dream wagon for me.

The rear seat room in the A4 Avant is no better than my WRX Wagon. The V70 has more room for family hauling a$$.

If I really need rear leg room, I'd get a minivan. This wagon is for show.  ;D

Wow nice colour combo, must be fate ktm525.
For MY2006 , the R models are fitted with the next-generation computer-controlled Haldex AWD system that instantaneously delivers up to 50 percent more torque to the rear axle only when needed, such as during takeoff.
Instant Traction adds a one-way pre-charging valve to the AWD system that maintains a torque load of 59 foot pounds, which is available instantly.

Also for MY2006 the Four C system was recalibrated for better response,as Volvo received alot of feedback from current R owners, hence Volvo responded with a better set-up.

I'd love the V70 R!!! My favourite colour was that aqua blue/green launch colour, but don't think it's available anymore. I think the Titanium Grey looks very hot over the pumpkin interior as well.

LMAO, check who's Lead Designer for the car (noted near the photo of the speedo)!!!!!!!!!  :o :o :o

Its funny as I was just looking at these online last week.

That is the wagon that I really wanted but after checking the budget you know what I ended up with (no regrets though but it isn't a V70R by any means).  My colour choice is the Titanium Grey though.  Once the budget gets upgraded to the V70R I know getting the g/f on board will be easy.  Just sit her down in those amazing seats and turns on the heaters.  SOLD!
  :skid:

There is a new S60R in blue just down the street from my office.  Oh so nice.

So here is another vote for yes, run back and get it before somebody else does.

A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.
