Geriatric Gangsta: DUB Pimps Out a Buick for the Aging Hip-Hopper

DETROIT — DUB magazine apparently sees a lot of potential in the urban market for large sedans, as it rolls out a customized 2006 Buick Lucerne DUB edition for a tour of 16 major U.S. markets this year.
The hip-hop Lucerne is scheduled to make stops in Detroit on August 6 and in San Diego on November 19.
The Buick is modified in very un-Buick-like fashion, starting with a TV screen mounted in the instrument panel. DUB added 22-inch chrome rims, 22-inch Michelin tires, a suede-and-leather interior, a lowered suspension, a Kenwood DVD in-dash head unit and window and taillight tinting.
Buick spokesman Dave Darovitz tells Inside Line the GM brand is pleased with the changes to the Lucerne. He said one of this year's auto trends has "tuners preferring larger sedans and more elegant styling for a sinister, gangster-like vehicle appearance." GM says the trend toward customizing VIP rides originated in China and worked its way to the United States.
