Considering new all-seasons for '93 Accord
« on: April 07, 2006, 10:24:13 pm »
It looks like I may need new all-season tires for my 1993 Honda Accord LX (185/70-14, minimum S-rated).  It currently has Goodyear Regatta 2's and I am not happy with them.  I have looked around town and on the 'net, and have come up with these possibilities for replacements:

Bridgestone Turanza LS-T
BF Goodrich Traction T/A
Michelin Harmony
Michelin HydroEdge
Kumho Touring 795
Toyo Spectrum

I am looking for something with excellent wet and dry handling, and reasonably low noise levels.  I know the Traction T/A's have been getting good reviews, but I have heard some reports of rapid wear.  I have also heard mixed reviews regarding noise levels on the Spectrum (I have Toyo Observe winter tires which have a mild but tolerable hum).  And I have heard some say that Kumho tires are narrower than they advertise.  Is there any truth to that?  FYI, I am not an aggressive driver, but I don't consider myself easy-going either.

Assuming the issues with my Goodyear's cannot be fixed, which of the above tires would you recommend?  Any other suggestions?  Thanks in advance.

You may want to look at a 195/65 x 14 tire, which seems to offer a better 'performance' selection.  See Tiretrends:  http://www.tiretrends.com/sizeSelectForm2.php
Two good selections are the Dunlop Sp Sport A2 Plus, and the Falkens Z1EX ZE 512.  I can't personally speak for the Falkens, but I've owned a set of Sport A2s and found them very competent.
