Not $150 a month more, Fit lease rate is 7.95% yikes that is nuts.  We know it will change though.

Fit should have higher residual value than Impreza. Last time I looked at LGT, only 30% residual value after 3 years. Cry

I'd like to say rates will drop but the Civic has been on sale for 6 months, it's still at 7.95%, and Honda has also raised the price of a DX-G by $700 since then.

With the Fit being a much lower volume car don't count on Honda having to chop finance or lease rates to sell them.

Nice review Dorin. The Fit seems to be a pretty competent small car built on an excellent platform.
If you guys want to cry about lease rates, the Mustang is 10%!

Hondas are pricy ... they usually have a premium just for being a Honda and their rates are not cheap either.  People are willing to pay for the car and the image that comes with it ... they could put a few thousands more on the MRSP and jack up their rates to 8.5% and people would still buy them blindfolded.

Maybe Honda usually have good and reliable products?
Same for Subaru though..

Tried out a Fit DX with manual tranny last Saturday.  If I may add to Dorin's review:

I found the Fit to be a very stable car on the highway.  It was raining and windy when I went for a test drive and felt very little crosswinds, considering the car's side 'signature' and 14" wheels.

The tranny felt slick and pleasant to shift but I found the knob a bit on the smallish side.  The sport model offers a bigger knob that felt more appropriate in my hand.  I didn't get to try out the paddle shifters as the dealer I went to had no such demos.

Ride wasn't what I expected it to be for a small car in this price range.  I found the interior noise to be very low and didn't feel the bumps on the road as much as I thought I would.

Great small cars are nothing new except for the pricing.  Tongue

I bought a new 1977 VW Rabbit for $4200 tax in and it was great. Of course it had no AC, no nothing; radio optional.

I must say I was quite surprised on Thursday night when my girlfriend's cousin pulled up in a brand new Fit sport. I had to opportunity to drive the new car and was really impressed.

Much of what I felt is the same as has been previously mentioned. The 5-speed felt solid, and the utility is amazing. It's just took too long to bring it to Canada.

Saw a few Fits in person this weekend, and they do look really good. They are priced a bit too closely to the Civic, though. Still, for someone who needs something more practical than a Civic, this is an excellent choice.

Just think of it as Civic-Wagon-Lite and the pricing makes perfect sense.  Also, maybe 1% of buyers know it's been out in other markets...

I was thinking the same thing.  The seating arrangements might be a bonus for those guys and girls who still hang their hats at their parent's hacienda.   Flowers Fall Love Dancy Banana

We have to remember this is not the EXACT same car they have been selling since 2001 in Japan. Entire front end is new ahead of the A pillar, new North America only engine, more safety equipment, etc. And although the horsepower is 30 shy of the new Civic, at a much lower weight it has similar pep, best in class according to Car and Driver. So the fact that it is priced pretty close to the Civic isn't really a detriment other than to those people who were looking for an Aveo fighter...

I wonder how many Civic sales the Fit will cannibalize?

Seems to be a pretty good little car. It certainly would have been one of the first I'd have looked at if it had been out last year. Smiley

Honda realizes that the Fit will eat into some of the lower end Civic sales. But they have also made a higher end Civic Sedan than ever sold in Canada before (the EX), and more varieties of all other Civics. Their goal is to move 15,000 Fits in the first model year (but this is from now until fall 2007 so really that is only about 7500 for the balance of 2006) and also increase Civic sales to 70,000 from about 63,000.

There is no question they will sell the 7500 Fits, but they may have a tough go increasing Civic sales at the same time as they have another competitive car to their own product.

If they could get more Fits imported here they would sell more, problem is all 4 factories that build the Fit (Japan, China, Brazil and Thailand) are going at full tilt and they can't physically BUILD any more...)

Maybe this will convince Honda to build a 3rd plant in Ontario, to supply North America with more Fits...
